Do you think the option to pick your own channels will benefit customers, or will the pricing be too high?

Yes, sport only please. For the rest: NetFlix.

Edit: ok, and Kiddies channels - but that's not my choice ;-)

I want the option to be able to make a decision that will work for me.

Whether many take up the option is up to MC. The options have to offer the market place what is wanted.

Those that hate sports will probably take up the option but only if the service cost goes down.

I want to reduce the choices available. I see no point in having 100 channels if only 10 are watched on a regular basis.

100% agree , they must not give me stuff i do not want .

Is this TRUMP shaking up the World ?

WHY
Has it taken them so long to work this out ?
You should be able to pick and choose the channels you want to watch on a monthly basis
I am pretty sure the technology exists to make this quick easy and painless

Not easy / affordable to have decent internet PLUS DsTV
We are not interested in sport but have always wanted EDUCATIONAL channels at a price even poor people can afford.
At the moment watching BBC and Channel 4 on the iPad
Yes OK we like the British programs -- which NEVER feature on SABC -- DUH !
IF the government was so serious about education then there should be two or three channels completely FREE

#PRICESMUSTFALL .............

Yes, and with a no Advertisements option. I will even pay more for this. Like how Hulu does it.

Because they've had us over a barrel until now.
It's not because they couldn't, it's because they had no reason to. You want sport? DSTV premium. You want movies? DSTV premium.
Now with Netflix they're loosing business, so they're considering this move.

I'd love to be able to choose my channels. I doubt very much that it will be cheap however.

I foresee issues in that channels will have to be advertised to subscribers.

How will you pick a channel you don't know exists.

We might get a situation where a new awesome channel comes out and not enough people want to increase their costs so make do with what they have.

Also how will you know if a channel is worth having without testing it out first? How will you know how often repeats and ad breaks happen?

Will new channels have to 'go viral' to stick around?

As a consumer I'd prefer genre packages. That way I can just pick the documentary and sci-fi bundles without worrying about individual channels.

Their reason has always been "you get more and we subsidize other channels so we can't and it's going to cost a lot"

I'd rather pay R200 just for sport (and or whatever channel I actually watch) than having it come bundled with 305893 other useless pieces of ****.

Multichoice was like "but this channel isn't so popular, so it's subsidized by other channels" boo-****ing-hoo, if your channel isn't making money - go offline and rethink your sins and/or make better content or replace it with something people actually want

on demand bitches

Yes, but it will probably work out more expensive for my household since I watch mainly 170 to 187 and sport, the wife the series and reality nonsense, and the kids 301 to 310

They could just let the subscriber select a category or categories to subscribe to (eg movies, sport, reality, news, etc). This would be a lot easier than letting each subscriber choose specific individual channels.

Who's the 2 dicks that voted no in this poll?

Yes , just sport , nothing else ...and then the subscription should be R150 a month...

And make it selectable on the fly, i.e. pay per view.
I might not want the sport channels all the time but I do want to watch when the boks are playing.
Cartoon channel is ok all the time as the kids watch that whatever is on. They watch it pretty much indisciminately.
