You should be able to figure out whether he's serious or not rather quickly and whether this time is any different than the previous. From here you can at least then act accordingly.

In my experience I found that to keep grudges takes a continuous use of energy. Energy that I can use so much better on other things. So I would rather forgive them and forget them Not always easy but I found that in the end it works better for me and takes so much less time and energy.

So sorry to hear this! I guess some people will never change and just never learn from their mistakes! But hey, karma's always watchful! Well, at least you can say in some confidence that you went with an open heart and open conscience to hear the guy out and he blew it!
