Would you stop pirating if you were "educated"?

If you knew someone who produced media content and understood what goes into making a movie, for example, do you think you would be less likely to pirate media content?

(For example - your partner produces Game of Thrones, you see how much time and money goes into the show.)

I have DSTV at home but the quality is so kek I have to torrent it. Also some shows are way behind on DSTV.

Needs another option...

3) I am already educated and I still pirate....

I don't think that education has much to do with it.

As soon as I had access to Netflix and Hulu, I almost completely stopped looking at torrents. I think for the most part people are happy to pay for their content, but I ain't paying stupid amounts of money for something like DSTV where most of the content is garbage, and the stuff that I want to watch is usually quite delayed and not accessible when it's convenient for me to watch it.

Piracy is inversely correlated to wealth.
Education is correlated to wealth.
Ergo, there would be less piracy in populations with higher education

I understand what goes into making content.

but I also see how much money the networks are taking for themselves. and then wasting it on other content.
for every show I enjoy, the same network produces 100 shows I think are adding to making the world less intelligent.

for Every game of thrones there are 10 honey boo boo like shows.

this can be extended to YouTube as well. I use ad blocker, so the contenet creators do not see revenue from me.
so instead of turning off adblocker, I support them on pateron.

unfortunately these big corporations from Dysney wiht the Marvel franchise, to HBO with game of thrones, all add to other boulderdash.
fake news, bad journalism, and untrustworthy websites looking for ad revenue and hits on the pages all need to die a slow death.

give us unbias, well researched articles, give the whole picture, make the content more easily accessible and dont lock us into long term contracts.

if Multichoice had half a brain cell between the entire content team, they would have jumped onto the digital migration years ago. created a working add on for Kodi that looks for a username and password. and gives all the channels, this alone will triple the user based in a matter of hours. and suddenly a South African company will have the ability to rule the entire world, but they cant see past their noses, so they lack behind.

Is there a correlation though between piracy and education?

Don't people pirate because of the huge selection available any time of the day or night? I'd happily pay for that.

EDIT: What Baxteen said about Multichoice having an add-on for Kodi is good.

Well if my partner worked on a show that is attributed with providing a good part of HBO's $5.9bn revenue and $1.8bn profit from it's 93 million paying subscribers, I don't think I'd be too bothered, to be honest.

"Educate" me with balance sheets please. Show me how all the poor producers and actors and distribution houses, are living on the bread line, because of "pirating".

As much as I'd like everyone to produce only the shows I enjoy I appreciate that we don't all march to the beat of one drum.

What these guys need to do is move away from the time slot mentality and towards a on demand model. Produce all the shows you want, cater to everyone, as long as I get to choose what to watch and when to watch it. It's basically what I do now but they could do more to make it easier for everyone.

Lol, whilst you're "educating" yourself, look at some of the profits these things generate. Might make you actually want to pirate some of them.

Breadline? What is this? Socialism? If they are rich you get to take the stuff they create without paying?

You going to use that same logic when someone poorer than you steals from you?

A thief will always justify his reasons for stealing.

True.

"But they're rich"
"I want it on my terms, and if I cannot have it on my terms, I'll just steal it"
"I'm teaching the industry a lesson"

Just want to add in...for every "star", there are many people living through union pay rates. The median pay rate for actors is a lot less than you'd think...guys with huge salaries drive that up but the majority are not making fortunes. I'd guess the average is probably around 20-25 dollars an hour or something.
