There is nothing wrong with that. You have options. How else do you want them to pay the bills cheapskates?
R50 is a ridiculous amount to pay when you consider that for R99pm you can get Netflix, R60pm you get access millions of songs from Spotify. The value proposition is just not there to justify that pricing

"Continue Without Supporting Us" works fine. Much like the other news websites with the message "Journalists Should go Hungry". They make enough money and there is no need to extort readers.

Least you can still use the site with adblocker, there are sites that refuse to take you further until one disables adblocker
And all these sites eventually ended up relying on sales of physical paper. There was an article sometime last year about one of these news sites who suffered massive losses due to this.

Problem for News24 is that they aggregate articles from various sources only and do not have any physical publication. If they ever do this forcefully, the majority of readers will move elsewhere or rather buy a physical newspaper when they want to read something.

BusinessLive costs more.

M&G has a nice model. Pay about R800 a year, get the news on the day it's released. Don't pay, and you can still read full articles a week after release.

Yeah sorta expected, we all knew it was only a matter of time. Ill allow it in this case, but have deleted their android APP permanently, their website isnt as annoying and I use it fairly infrequently these days.

I don't have an issue whitelisting sites I use regularly, as long as the advertising is not overbearing. However, in the News24 App, some articles load with full screen ads that you have to close to view the article, and the close icon is so tiny it's difficult not to click on the ad and open a new window. Now that pisses me off :/

why does everyone assume the WOW was negative ...
Oh, you meant "WOW, finally, I can support News24!"

I pay for M&G and BusinessLive, but I don't ever feel happy about it. I part with the money because on some level, I know that it's good these things exist.

Today I removed News24 from my bookmark bar and it won't go back.
At home, I've got Pi-hole running so the app is ok but without it, it's flipping awful.

I've recently found that their articles are riddled with spelling errors (even in the headline) - you want me to pay for that? I think not.

Just like DSTV, I say good riddance to bad rubbish!

I use no-script in Firefox, then I get neither adverts nor annoying messages about ad-blocking. Daily Maverick's ones don't pop up either.

I didn't mind the concept of ads as such but the incessant tracking and the fact that they munch more than half the data used to load the web-page is annoying.
