playing with my lvl42 n00b, the areas seems so empty- here and there there is a soul, but i definitely remember hillsbrad, badlands, tanaris, arathi highlands, swamp of sorrows, dusk <something> marshes and thousand needles seeing allot more traffic.

wow server mergers- is it a Question of when ?

Its not possible. Think just about trying to merge Auction House content, its impossible.

No actually not everything is possible, clearly you do not understand programming.
Also Blizzard works on a priority list and I do not think that this is a very urgent matter. Yes it can be painful not to see people, but you can live with it.

Also they are not concerned with old world content, their main motto is progression of the game.

The problem is that most avid players have already reached lvl 80, and are mostly found in faction cities & northerend.

All other areas are populated by people leveling alts or new players, so the chances of meeting someone else has drasticaly reduced to near zero.

Outlands is a teensy bit better, but the players are most probably deathnights.

I doubt they will start merging servers as the servers are generally near capacity with the above said users, you can see by the server stats how full a server is.

Merging say only the Azeroth & Outlands realms of a battle group together may be a good idea as you will then have several servers users all out in the wild seeing each other, but, then main faction cities will be so full of people that the lag will be insane.

The lag can be countered by placing the trainers & auction houses in Dalaran, but that will spell instant doom to most traffic in pre northerend areas bar levelers as one would have so few reasons to go pre northerend, you'le just bounce between dalaran & the surrounding areas and dungeons.

At the end of the day, Blizzard can pretty much doom WOW with the next few lvl caps as the time it takes to level + pretty much soloing till you get to populated areas will be so boring, newcomers will quit while there ahead.

With the new battlenet account system, there probably looking at keeping payers who will migrate from wow to some other blizard mmo ....

Just my thoughts ...

saving their own behinies with the next gen mmo ;)

i wonder if they will learn from their mistakes they clearly made in wow and are keeping on making. maybe sc mmo ?, who knows might be better than going another fantasy and magick route.

not bad to solo and be the lone ranger VS the over populated high lever areas and contents it has its solace, just a note they should maybe take on- for those being on the the server for the first time and seeing jack **** might put allot of people off unless you are with a few people.

hec not being over ganked does feel good too :p

Why do a lot of people think merging servers would be difficult? All you have to do is transfer all of the characters from one server to the other. And Bliz is already able to do character transfers. The only problem is that it will be time and processor intensive, so they Bliz might decide to take the server offline for the duration.

As for when server merges will start, I doubt it will be anytime soon. There is still a lot of subscribers and I think it will be some time before it becomes too expensive to operate servers for the number of subscribers

Actually you clearly have no knowledge of the internals of the wow architecture, merging everything is very possible, time consuming but possible.

They could easily use some heuristics algorithm to work out the base line of items on the AH, they would most likely remove a lot of content from the AH due to the market possibly being flooded with items that aren't needed, and also flooding the market which would make the base cost of the item being next to nothing.

Which in fact they most likely would not even merge the AH content and all AH content would most likely be refunded to the players mail box.

So chop, before going and slandering people about there coding skills why not get the fk off these forums and go plain your vanilla ****. Your type of moronic attitude is not welcome here. These people have way more knowledge than you do.

They'd just close the AH 48hrs before the merge, so all your remaining auctions would be in your mail and the AH would be emptied out. Easy.

I smell wow dying out
OMG, WoW dying, Noooooo

With the changes they made to amount of xp needed to level as well as getting more XP to kill people are getting to 80 much faster. The lower level areas will be deserted because everybody does a few quests in an area and moves on, no more reason to do all the quests.

Maybe from the pespective of the 70% of the people participating on this forum, but I doubt thats representative of the market outside of South Africa, or even in South Africa.

The fact that the older zones are quiet doesnt mean anything. Northrend is packed. With xp boost from recent patches, people level out of the Azeroth zones fairly quickly nowadays. I actually like these zones being quiet. I can chill out and solo on a lowby alt for a few hours.

Blizzard would never do this. Ofc it is possible, but it wont happen. Their policy is to offer free migrations to even out populations. If you have logged on recently, you may have noticed quite a few.
