Hi all,

I've had enough of shaped bandwidth. Ping spikes, latency above 1000ms and just a general unpleasant experience has made me decide to go for unshaped ADSL. Do any of you have experiences with this in regards to WoW? What are ping times like? Packetloss? Spikes... etc. I'd really appreciate it if you can help me. I'm also on 384k ADSL. Should I upgrade to 1024k? Will it really make a difference?

Thanks in advance,

A true WoW addict.

I tried Unshaped for a bit, the first night ran great for WoW *SAIX Unshaped* 450ms

However the next day and night it was pretty unpredictable. From 600 ms to 1200ms back to 800ms, etc etc. You will never have a constant latency at the moment it seems on Saix unshaped.

I doubt upgrading your line speed will increase latency while on shaped. It would probably be best to look at Nukecaps services for best Int gaming latency.

Thanks guys, well it's only R399 for a 3GB unshaped account from Axxess come November. It'll work out cheaper for me than using NukeCap.

BeLgaRiOn,

You can buy chunks of 1GB unshaped bandwidth (SAIX) from WebAfrica at R125.00

I am currently on an unshapped account and it's been really bad of late  spikes like crazy. My suggestion get a VPN solution.

Can't really comment on unshaped, but I can comment one 1024 line. I use nukeCap lowPing VPN to play WoW.

The line speed does not seem to make much difference in WoW. It probably does help for those times when there is a raid raiding a town, but I have not had too much experience with these since my line has been upgraded.

384 seems to be a good option. If you really want a bit extra which might improve your latency slightly (not much at all), go for the 512 option due to the 256 upstream bandwidth (ie. you will be able to send info up to the server quicker).

The 1024 probably also help me when my girlfriend is surfing the net while I'm playing (I usually don't even notice any degradation ingame while she is surfing).

I have tried unshaped and it was just as bad as shaped. I have a 1 meg line and me and my wife run WOW through two NukeCAP VPN accounts and no problem at all, does not even spike, it average between 400ms and 600ms with no packet lost at all.
:)
