Vanilla wow had a lot of growing pains. We waited over 6 months to get the first 40 man raid dungeon opened. Before that we were doing Strat 15 man and Scholomance 10 man raids! Quests were horrible to say the least, and rep grind at 1 rep per kill were mind numbing
When MC were released the game did significantly improve though, but it would take blizz another year to give us an upgrade to MC with BWL. BWL being my most liked raid dungeon in wow, till this day! The opening of silithus and then finaly AQ20/40 were amazing, but the instance self a bit one dimensional. Nax40 were just insanely hard! That made us come back month after month on the same instance... Only managed to clear it while TBC already started.
TBC, the anticipation nearly killed TBC. We expected a lot, and it was the biggest addition of content up to that point. Kara till end of Sunwell were challenging, but the hype of raiding killed the casual instance runs
People were more focused on leveling alts than anything else. Questing in TBC were a huge improvement over vanilla though...
WOTLK, an expansion that were rushed out due to competition in the MMO market. A huge mistake on blizzards behalf to rush it. By far the best looking content in wow, but why did they take the vanilla nax and use it again... Nax belongs to an era 3 years ago, its bosses are so one dimensional after the fun we had in tbc. To kill raiding even further, they made everything way to easy. The instances and other raids (malygos + sarth) is however really nice, and well scripted. I am looking forward to see new raid content they will add designed specifically for wotlk!
In conclusion, I will give wotlk the benifit of the doubt. It is still early times and a lot can still happen. Vanilla is gone, I liked it because I liked wow. TBC had its great times, I don't want any of it back though
I have one consurn though, it took well over 3 years to get tired of Vanilla wow, less than 2 years for tbc, will wotlk only last a year?
