so there I was minding my own business watching Law & Order on Hallmark tonight when an K@K stupid "announcement" pops up!!! telling me to stay in touch by sms's my dstv card & email details to a 3**** number!!!

Now I pay top dollar for an already K@K PREMIUM DUAL VIEW service most of which is repeats and then some more fecking repeats. I've never known history to repeat itself so fecking much!!!

MULTICHOICE IF YOU GOING TO START TRANSMITTING POP ADS DURING SHOWS LIKE TONIGHT'S ONE THEN I WILL CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION PERMANENTLY!!!:mad::mad::mad:

And to make matters worse the fecking decoder crashes straight after the K@K stupid popup ad!!!

WTF????:mad

Poor show. Not only do you get to watch 20 minutes of adverts during a series episode, but you also get spammed.
Bwaaahahahahahahahaha.
FAIL

I posted about this on MCE Guide's forum here http://forum.mceguide.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=213

It meant I had recordings covered by their horrible message, and wrong recordings, as changing the channels was prevented by this popup. (without pressing OK)

Did you guys sms the details?
I wouldn't.

I haven't seen it but from what I'm understanding, I wouldn't sent any details....

Same here, I get that ad again and I will cancel DSTV. The pain with me is that I use a Tivo (non standard Multichoice PVR), so it actually records my tv programs WITH the damn annoying ad window.

I actually had to find batteries for my dstv decoder to get rid of that damn ad.

We pay enough money to those punks without them having to SPAM our screen with a pop up. Makes you want to scream.

The TIVO would have the same problem as me, when it sends 1-1-0 to the decoder to change the channel to record the next program, the 1-1-0 is ignored as you have to press OK first. So not only do you have a message on the screen, you have the wrong this with a message recorded!

Grrr.

I've also complained to Monochoice, and on hellopeter. My media center recorded this **** for three days.

Mine didn't have the SMS rate above though - I told them if they do it again I'll cancel - and its no ideal threat - I'm already considering cancelling purely because there's only crap and repeats showing - I'd rather start downloading my stuff.

You can hear the laughter coming out of the Monochoice offices for miles.... they just figured out how to stop people from using nonstandard PVR's.

I'm so glad I don't have DSTV.... I can add "pop ups" to the list of reasons I wont pay for their rubbish !

I can't believe that they even considered doing this to their customers, a full screen pop up with useless information, the horror ! I have noticed that the American TV stations do this but they have a very small pop up that goes away by its self and it actually gives you valuable information !

I had just got Windows 7 working, and came back to this - fortunately DSTV has so many repeats, I didn't miss anything.

Thats also the nice thing about Windows 7 - it handles series repeats quite well.

That would be alright. Indeed they have found a way! Of course this all just proves how monopolistic they are. If it weren't for them we could have guide support built right in!

I bet they're doing it like this specifically because of people who use non-monochoice recording hardware.

Anyone know how this affected their PVRs?

I'm sure the PVR is recording the "base" stream, not the decoder generated output. Well, one can only hope :)
