Now i will update the rest later but as you can see they been having a hard time [well yes after all it must be hard work] but more than that the customers suffer and no not the gamers for now BUT those with Businesses [note i am just a student so can't speak from any experience however i feel for you ppl :o] and i woulda thought they would atleast have more control when stuff breaks [see to it that they use that bloody profit on preventing it for a long time?]?

Is this happening because the cables and stuff aint NEW . Experts plz give a response.

looking forward to hearing the "other reasons" aswell hehe

It happens because builders and farmers have a tendency to dig into the cables with bulldozers and backhoe's. The cables are not encased in cement, just a few layers of PVC pipes and I think a metal shield, so there is a risk. There does seem to have been a sudden spate of fibre breaks.

Appreciate the answer there asmith and hope they fix it soon as its driving me nuts.

One more reason as to why an monopoly is not good... should there be a couple of service providers, then each would have its own cable, thus minimizing the impact of a broken cable.

A monopolistic company only will have a limited amount of cable, and once these breaks, will be in big trouble...

If Telkom had spent money on infrastructure, such as increasing redundancy, rather than paying huge dividends from artificially produced profits, there wouldn't be a problem.

I doubt that the situation will change while the government and its cronies earn so much from these dividends.

but if out gov. has their dirty fingers in all the few big pies that are around then they can be ready for any natural disaster.
