I've had my DSL up and running now for about 2/3 weeks. I did a self install. It only took 2 days to get my connection activated. Which was impressive, well would have been if they hadnt cancelled my DSL order the first time around.

Anyway, I got a call just now from Telkom, they want to send a technician to my house to do "ADSL line alterations". They dont even explain why or ask if its ok. The woman just starts setting up times and dates, as if it is all preordained.
So i stopped her and said, "Why?", "Explain to me what this technician needs to do". To which she replied, "ADSL line alterations". So anyway I wasnt buying it. I told her that my line is fine, my connection is fine and its been running for a while now. So she gave up.

What the hell was that about? WTH is an "ADSL line alteration"?

Sounded to me like some guy was going to pitch up, pretend to do something and then leave me with a fat bill. They werent talking about upgrades either, not that it needs to be physically done from my end anyway.

Telkom = wormfood

Phone telkom and inform them that you did a self-installation - make sure the operator notes/appends this on your account.

I had repeated calls from telkom about "coming to check my adsl line", which ceased after doing the above.

Apparently there is a bit of a scam going around where people are calling, pretending to be from Telkom and then trying to get you to let them in to your house.

Funny thing is you would probably lose less money having a stranger come into your house and steal your TV than having a Telkom tech come in to do an "ADSL line alteration".

We had a guy come into my dad's car lot and pretend he was a traffic officer that could "squash" outstanding fines. Damn he was good. He sat talking to my mom for about an hour and even said he'd think about enrolling his daughter in my mom's private school.

Then he said if wanted the fines gone we need to give him R200 now. My mom was happy and even asked my dad for the money, but luckily my dad is one sceptical SOB. He called the traffic department and there was no record of an officer under his name. The guy ran away, but my dad nipped his ankle with a brick. I wish i could've been there.....to slap the taste out his face :D

It's moments like these that are so funny I that even forget that Telkom is disgusting....
