WWDC 2025 and iOS 19 Discussion

Third day on ios 26. Was very slow at the beginning but it is getting better.

My car charging progress is showing on the lock screen which was there before. Which is nice. Only one app is not working, an authentication app so a bit of a problem for me, but I can manage.

The facetime live translate looks cool, but when I spoke to someone who spoke afrikaans the translation was totally off. Don’t know which languages are supported, but once that works well, I will just use facetime.

It looks really good too, I had a few people ask me how I set up my phone like this and this is just the default.

Still not smooth enough yet, but it is a first beta. It is quite nice after being a bit underwhelmed by wwdc.

The call screening function is life changing and I saw it in action multiple times on Friday as FNB called me more than 20 times for an insurance quotation which I knew was a mistake to begin with when I clicked it in the app.

The music mix thing is also bloody uncanny, really small detail but when your playlist isn't wildly random it works very well.

@bwana any chance you can rename the thread title to say iOS26?

What stood out above all else was Yap’s speed. By harnessing SpeechAnalyzer and SpeechTranscriber on-device, the command line tool tore through the 7GB video file a full 55% faster than MacWhisper’s Large V3 Turbo model, with no noticeable difference in transcription quality.

Google mocks Apple for iOS 26 features Pixels have had for ages

After Apple's unveiling of iOS 26, Samsung was quick to poke fun at some of the features that are coming to iPhones this fall after having been available on Samsung devices already, and today Google has joined the fun - better late than never?

Google's exceptionally cringy "#BestPhonesForever" campaign has released a new video, and like all the other ones it's set up as a conversation between a Pixel and an iPhone. Only this time, it's all about how iOS 26 has been 'inspired' by Pixel features. Take a look:

Auto-translation of messages is mentioned, with the Pixel saying it had that feature four years ago. Then, Hold Assist gets a shoutout too, which the Pixels have had for five years. Next up, call screening - new to iOS 26, but a seven-year-old feature on Pixels.

Really cool to see some peeps here using iOS 26 already, I am far too cautious to load this early of a Developer Beta on my daily driver, but I am encouraged at the progress being made, I probably load it when it goes into Public Beta, a few PB releases in.

I just hope Apple have not broken things that were not needing any fixing…15PM is running so beautifully on iOS 18.5, I hope it is a seamless transition into iOS 26 when it becomes a final build for customer release.

Weekly poll results: iOS 26 is a mixed bag, new features liked better than the new look

Apple has divided opinions with its new iOS 26 – it introduced new features, but is also a part of a wider effort to unify the user experience across all Apple products. As we noted in last week’s poll, the new OS version is only available as a developer beta – an open beta should be out in a few weeks, the stable release will likely coincide with the arrival of the iPhone 17 series.

What does the poll show? Around half of voters have found something to like in the iOS 26 update. That said, that was mostly due to the new features introduced in this version.

Beta 2 feels a hell of a lot snappier straight out of the gates.

My TymeBank app also works again, which was the only thing that was broken.

I can’t find any issues with beta 2 on my iPad, I’m edging towards doing my phone now (even though I usually wait for beta 3).

Wireless CarPlay work okay? Issues here is why I didn’t try the phone beta
