It seems www.sawireless.co.za has tanked. Their domain name is
even available for sale, I checked the register. So did Icasa nail
them? Anybody has any ideas? www.wavestream.co.za and www.gin.co.za
are still in business.

Interesting...

http://co.za/cgi-bin/whois.sh?Domain=sawireless

Struggling to pay the R150 domain cost Joe?

Your one page Frontpage special website does not exactly instill a feeling of confidence in your service. All it tells us is how much it costs and that you're stuck for 3 months. There is no mention of exactly what one is getting in terms of service delivery and what equipment you are using to deliver said service.

I never got a reply to my email. Bad move on your part.

The site doesn't even mention which areas you are operating in. This is a mickey mouse operation, second to none.

Yip, after e-mailing you twice with a very simple question on coverage and not getting a response either time I have to agree with thewanted's sentiments. Unprofessional and therefor not worth the risk.

1) Sawireless old website used infantile grammar (mine is not
so good either , but I am not selling anything.)
His old website was full of spelling mistakes, could he not even
afford a HIgh School teacher in English to check the spelling?
2) His 24month contract ---> ... raises the warning signs.
What happens if your connection is down for 24 months? Is this contract so construed that you will just have to pay no matter what?
3) Sorry Joe I believe you are a ......., you did not answer my
questions when I spoke to you over the phone.
4) R100 a month is clearly ridiculous, a dedicated line no contention
costs R4000. So if you resel this line for R8000 you are going to
place 80 people on one 64k line! You make no mention of contention
ratios.
5) Where do you get bandwidth? What are your ping speeds?
6) What are your AP methods? Linksys WRT54G or do you use Meshboxes.
7) The minimum cost for a meshbox selfmade is around R2600. How do
you finance this. And installing it will take at least 3 hours...
How do you generate the cashflow for R2600 - R1400 = R1200
shorfall(Meshboxes) if you use this.
8) You work for Mutual and Federal insurance brokers, do they know
that you are offering 24month contracts with no clear details on your site as to what the implications are?

9) And 256kbs for R200 are you serious?
10) Just spoke to Heinrich and he told me that how they enable
a 256k connection for R200 is none of my business. And that if
I am not happy with his answer, I should take my business elsewhere.
He also did not know what a contention ratio is.

look John all you do is talk talk and talk how adout getting off you F@#$ ase and put your money were it is worth. and my time after 4.15 is mine, what i do after that is not Mutual & federal business. even if i own a sex shop of a bottel store. As you know white people are not going to have a job one of these days decause of the AA law. I want to get this up for my kids and yours, that is if you have a girl friend (he he ) i hope so for your sake. And yes there is a Company behind us.And the contention ratio is, well how adout getting your own Ap units and find out for your self.and yes it is none of your business what we offer to the users.

Methinks this has devolved into the kind of thing we don't want nor need on this forum. Moderators, please take action...

hey I have been looking at many WISP options as we want to start a commercial MegaWan type setup prefferably on 802.11g 54Mbps. Bandwidth overhead is expensive but SA Wireless have a few tricks up their sleeve although I feel for proper support and access the subscription should be R499 minimum and no longer than 6 to 12 months.
Are any of you guys on trhe SA Wireless system ? I believe the gaming ping rates are good ?

Oh yes, no need to slate a company unless you have had personal experience with them, perhaps they are trying to keep overheads low while building the network to offer you guys the best options.

Don't get me wrong, I have done a lot of R&D on this and the main issues are uptime, speed, international speed, pings rates, interference, ICASA and distance, lastly cost. People are very unhappy with telkom (check out http://hellkom.co.za) and Sentech system now suck. On the PCFormat and PlanetMars forums I have found a lot of support for a good WISP which is our intention to setup. Our only problem at the moment is try to reduce the client side installation costs.

webdude, why not just use 1 post, it is easier to follow :) I like your points though. WISPS i see are the only way forward but it is still a problem getting your international bandwith and you have to include telkom which i hate. Good luck to SAWireless and all others who try and better the broadband world of SA with competitive prices... or should i say realistic prices!!! I don't understand why every one has to get on SAwireless's case, they are actually trying to help things in this country. John what have you done lately to better things in our very poor telecom situation.

Webdude 5.8ghz is used for point to point communication.
You simply can't deploy 5.8ghz as CPE equipment for WISP, it is just to expensive.
www.duxbury.co.za sells the www.proxim.com 5ghz equipment.
