I like the WISP idea, been in the ISP industry almost since its birth about 10 years, at least for this country and bandwidth + Telkom links are soooo expensive. We will probably build a semi-national WISP maybe with or without SA Wireless depending on my partners although we are looking at peering with other WISPs. We like the 5GHz 802.11a options, they cost much more and the distances are reduced but no sweat for us on the setup costs and we will probably do rentals for the clients so that they don't have large capital outlays. Contract will be on a 3 to 6 month basis if you buy the equipment for yourside yourself.. around R2k or 12 to 24 months if you take the rental option which will add about R190 a month onto your account. I know some people bringing in international bandwidth by satellite in durban and JHB but I am worried about the additional latency. We have had a lot of support and interest from a number of people and forums, but at the end of the day it is what you the users want. This is still in the R&D stages so no web page up yet for the new company.
