i came across www.sawireless.co.za, their prices are extremely low compared to sentech and telkom. i have requested information from them. what i want to know if there is anyone using there service yet and what is it like, i understand that they are a new company and i'm willing to support them, i refuse to use telkom or sentech(which is just a subsidiary of it). I see that these guys have been slated on this site but there are no recent posts relating to this company. does anyone have experiences to share.

<my opinion on>
I fully believe in supporting the small guys, but I must admit that I don't gain much confidence in a company when the first thing you see on their website is that they are looking for investors. Not to mention the fact that a lot of their links don't seem to be working for me. Besides that, their prices for home use are extremely cheap. I would be interested to hear more about their service and support.
</my opinion off>

the website doesn't imbue confidence, but right now i don't have internet access at home so i literally have nothing to lose. if telkom's monopoly is ever to be broken the small guys have to be supported

<i>if telkom's monopoly is ever to be broken the small guys have to be supported</i>

Well no, if Telkom's monopoly is ever to be broken we require goverment initiatives promoting investment in competition, not a company that claims it can provide 512kbs for R300 per month and who's site barely functions.

Does anyone know if these guys are licenced or what technology they use? What sort of infrastructure they intend using?

I'm all for encouraging new competition but if the price seems too low to believe then possibly it shouldn't be believed.

thats my main concern, not the politics. whether they are a government driven initiative or not or some major investment company, it doesn't matter....all that matters is how much i pay at the end of every month....if all is true and they aren't a fly by night crowd, R300 does seem like quite a bargain

I dont know about this company... R300 for a 512kb/s ? even if they cap their clients to 3gig a month they will be paying more for the bandwidth then the client will be paying for the service... Does that make sense? how is the company going to make a profit.

These guys usually deliver up to a point, as soon as there subscriber base increases to a certain number you find a decrease in available bandwidth (especially international). The fact that I couldn't spot any contention ratios is worrying.

martin, have you had personal experience with them?

I always say - you get what you pay for. (Except in Telkom and Sentech's case, of course). So I would be very cautious if a company is offering a service so much cheaper than anyone else.

martin, the contention ratios are problem with sentech also, must be an industry wide issue.

echo'ing the person above "have you had personal experience with them?

there has to be someone that knows. they still haven't mailed me any information that i requested yesterday.

I think there is something really fishy about this company.
They don't even post their address or a land line to contact them.
They probably just put up a site and got some pre-paid phone cards for the number they r using [:D]
Anyways .... if this is for real ..... please ... let me know ....
I hate to support telskum and definitely not going the sentech route now :)

all these comments about "not economically feasible hocus pocus" at this price is non-sense.

my cousin who stays in london had a 750kbp/s line installed this weekend, line rental free and only 17pounds a month for internet. if its possible there, its possible here.

and don't let anyone fool you, we're so used to swine like telkom and more recently sentech, that we don't have the slightest idea of what economic competition looks, smells, tastes and feels like.....south africa = profit, consumer needs don't exist cause "ek is die baas" mentality is still rife in business management in south africa....the sooner this mentality is changed or the old boys at the top die, things probably won't change and we'll still be charged R600 a month for 128k line...which if you think about it is ridiculous

i was in england in 2002 witha 3MB line at my house for 30 pounds a month.
Here in SA we dont actually reliese how slow ADSL and other internet connections are...

Hopefully when Eskom comes into power they will run internet over power lines.. should be quick speeds.
