X box 360 or PS2

Hey guys i have been told by another friend that I will need a high deffinition tv for an X Box 360. The tv costs about R6000. He said the X Box will work on the ordinary tv but the graphics looks really k@k. He said I should go for the Black Slim Line PS2. His one works well. Its a lot cheaper. So in about 3 months time I will have a PS2 console
 
I have a xbox 360 on a normal TV. The graphics looks 10x better than the PS2.
Sure, it would look even better on a HDTV, but on a regular TV, it is still in a different league to the PS2

Got PS2 and Xbox 360 and then when i compare NEED FOR SPEED, the graphics is just much better....
 
The thing is the PS2 looks good on my TV and I dont know if I really wanna fork out R2000 for a console. My friend said the PS2 is much cheaper.
 
You'd be wasting your money on a PS2 right now. It's basically at the end of its lifetime. Not many new games coming out for it now. The 360 looks sooooo much better than a PS2, even on a normal TV, and there's loads of awesome games coming out for the 360.

The PS2 is nice but it is dated. Who knows how long studios will continue to develop for it.

BTW - take your friend to specsavers - they offer a eye free exam. The 360 look just fine on a standard tv.
 
If money is a problem and you need a gaming console, then I suppose PS2 will be the alternative.

But if you're looking to future proof yourself and want stunning graphics (GOW), then XBox 360 is definitely the way to go.

Beside, you're gonna spend money on games as well right? So yeah....

If money is really a big issue, then you probably shouldn't get either.

2 things:

God of War 2

and the other games for ps2 are so much cheaper than an xbox. Buy a ps2 now and have fun. buy a 360 next year once the games have matured and the price has dropped.

I wanna have fun for now. Graphics dont really mean too much for me and once the X Box has dropped in price then I will get it. I see there are mixed feelings about this. I just want a console to play games on thats all.

The overwhelming consensus was that a 360 was the way to go.
 
What a silly comparison really...

The Xbox 360 is not even comparable to the PS2.... I won't even go into the reasons. It's like comparing a Ferrari to a Classic Beetle. They are both cars but that's about it.

God of War is the showpiece of the PS2.... Take a look at the screenshots and compare to Gears of War.

Xbox Live! will blow you out of the water. Seriously don't waste your money.
 
Seriously get a Xbox 360.
They will stop making PS2 games and then your just going to have to buy a 360 any way. Save yourself money and buy a Xbox 360.

I got one and I frikken love it. :D

But I just wanna play around now and graphics dont really bother me that much. To me a game is a game. I do enjoy playing on the PS2 as well. It is great fun. I played on my brother's X Box a while back but prefer the PS2. The PS3 is only coming out in March and it will be a while before it comes down in price which means the PS2 will be around for a while still.
 
Great then you can buy my PS2. Seriously the XBOX360 is a better console, but that as you say doesn't mean you'll have more fun on it.
The title lineup on the PS2 is far bigger than that of the 360 so from that POV I understand. However PS2 graphics give me a headache, I never thought it looked good from when it first came out, now it looks even worse.

For instance, NFS:Carbon is unplayable on the PS2, yet on the PC it's so much fun its insane. The 360 Version also plays way better than the PS2 (better frame rate, better detail and since you play in the dark you need these two things allot)

Then buy games for the PC. They are cheaper than the PS2.

I unfortunately do not understand anyone buying a PS2 now when the Xbox 360 is out and the PS3 is coming out. It's like buying a car when you know the new shape is coming out next month...

Oh and don't hold out any hopes for the PS3 no one else is. Sony forgot that Games machines actually need games :D
 
I am only into like racing games like gran turismo 4 and fighting games like mortal kombat so i dont really need an X Box to play those games. When the PS3 comes out it will cost R8000 and why would I pay that amount for a console like that?
 
If you like GT, then go check out Forza 2 coming out on Xbox in May. As for fighting games, Dead or alive 4 is hectic fun. Even if youve never played before, its easy to pick up and play, always a winner with guests.

I' would (and did) go Xbox route. Beside the fact it will last you a lot longer than a ps2, there as a lot of nice additional features:
Xbox live arcade - small fun games for cheap (Geometry wars alone is almost reason enough to get an xbox :) )
Media streaming from PC
Very nice save game/account handling system
The 'achievement' system is actually quite cool I thought it was a stoopid idea at first, but its grown on me very nicely.
It can even play songs directly from your iPod!
Wireless controllers
Better graphics by far (even on standard tv)
Parental controls (should you want to use it)
The very slim possibility of Telkom maybe using it to provide IPTV via ADSL in the future. (long story will give more info if requested, but you should be able to find most of the info online anyways)
