Microsoft recently announced that they will soon be sending xbox 360's to the rest of the world. So to all the South Africans who know what a Xbox 360 is, you better start saving some money.( I have one here in the U.S and i whould prefer it anyday.)

Price.

Well they have two kinds of 360 packages here in the U.S. The coresystem which is basicaly just the 360 system without a harddrive and with a wired controller, it runs for $300. the premium package, the one i have is the best deal. It comes with a wireless controller and a harddrive it runs for $400. Microsoft also said that they might lower game prices for countries like SA because they are being over charged. So just think u might even pay lees for 360 games than playstaion 2 games!

I've heard varying rumours but it sounds like we're heading for a September / October local release.

Apparently MS was tryng to get pricing at R2500 / R3500 for the two kits, but with the Rand having fallen, they'relooking at R3000 / R4000.

Just Rumours ;) (from an associated retailer)

I agree, but it's comparable to other IT item conversions.

Straight conversion is R2,808.70 ($400 at todays rate) But always remember when coverting from USD is that RSA na EU countries to include VAT = R3201.918 + 5% customs surcharge = R3362.0139.

Personally i think they should be trimming the fat off the price to break new markets before PS3 launches, especially in a country, like ZA, Where the Playstation brand has been so dominant for so long.

I agree, but then again the ps3 won't sell as good cause i don't think everyone has $600 laying around so ya xbox 360 will be selling far more before ps3 caches up.

I hate to say it, but unfortunately I find most South Africa consumers to be prett dof. They'll believe any c@rp a salesman gives them without looking into the facts themselves.

I promise you there'll be people who believe:
1. 2x the price = twice as good
2. Blu-ray is going turn their 54cm no name brand 10 year old telly into a l337 1080p monster.
3. That the mod-chip in their existing PS2 will work in their new PS3.
4. The PS3 will give them broadband internet connectivity.

Here is the best answer that I have been able to get from Microsoft SA about the imminent release of the Xbox 360.

Quote:
Xbox 360 will not launch in South Africa until sometime in the last quarter of this calendar year.

At this time any retailer, or retail connected business has the opportunity to order the product via the LOCAL Microsoft approved distributor.

The terms and conditions of this agreement are between the retailer and the distributor.

Later during the month of AUGUST we will make a public announcement about the approved Distributor/s as well as the general availability of the product.

Please note: As it stands, all technical support for Xbox 360 is supported overseas until the product is officially launched. The device will be covered by the supplier based upon the End Users License Agreement. Xbox 360 devices which are already purchased will only be covered by their supplier.

So who is the approved distributor?????
Is it going to be one of the big guys (Ster Kinekor or Nu Metro) or have they chosen someone smaller (Prophecy, TakeTwo)???

Come on own up...

i cant say at the moment, have to abide by some disclosure agreements... ;)

its certainly NOT going to be Ster-Kinekor or Nu Metro... they are too busy sorting the PS3 and making loans available to those who buy Sony's PS3. :p

XBox 360

Just got back from Australia where the XBOX 360 is being marketed quite aggressively. Was not too interested as:
1. Nothing can beat a PC, right?
2. I've grown up and can't even find the time play TW2006 on my pc.

However, the marketing theme and colours (lime green) are pretty eye catching and give the impression that this is a quality, complete product.
Secondly, I paused a moment to check out the graphics on this unit. There was a basketball game being demo'ed. Oh My Gosh - absolutely stunning is all I can say. Nothing, I mean nothing compares to it at this point in time. Makes a PS2 look like those old ping pong brick TV games that first came out.

I've never had a console before, but I'm increasingly attracted to the idea of a more "sociable" gaming experience. Like if somebody comes to visit, I won't be gaming at my desk in the study, but rather I'll be gaming in front of the TV (God forbid that I'm not gaming at all when somebody comes over). Now at least said visitor can hang in my lounge instead of in my study.

well i for one play on the PC and consoles for a while now, having bought the X360 i am willing to buy a X360 copy of a game over a PC version. Simply because there are no issues with hardware and it will run better on my X360 too.

Take GRAW, its a great gaming experience on the X360 whilst my PC copy is gathering dust. Plus its kinda more social to have someone over and join you for a round of FIFA, PGR3 or Table Tennis. More fun! :D

Well Here's the thing, the Xbox 360 is one of the greatest systems out there now and is even suprisingly even better than a pc. Oh and about the grafix mohamedm, i know i own one it's the best especialy on games like need for speed most wanted, which i'm sure u folks in SA have right? OH and if u buy a 360 be sure to check out the Halo series, it's one of the best selling games in the US for xbox and xbox 360.

Oh and by the way if they have xbox games in SA you would be able to play them since all you need to make the 360 backwards compatible is asimple download or a disc you can make yourself.
