Here is the best answer that I have been able to get from Microsoft SA about the imminent ;) release of the Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 will not launch in South Africa until sometime in the last quarter of this calendar year.

At this time any retailer, or retail connected business has the opportunity to order the product via the LOCAL Microsoft approved distributor.

The terms and conditions of this agreement are between the retailer and the distributor.

Later during the month of AUGUST we will make a public announcement about the approved Distributor/s as well as the general availability of the product.

Please note: As it stands, all technical support for Xbox 360 is supported overseas until the product is officially launched. The device will be covered by the supplier based upon the End Users License Agreement. Xbox 360 devices which are already purchased will only be covered by their supplier.

So who is the approved distributor?????
Is it going to be one of the big guys (Ster Kinekor or Nu Metro) or have they chosen someone smaller (Prophecy, TakeTwo)???

Come on own up...

If the imports are going for R3500, then I'm hoping for the official version to be around R3000 or maybe less after the price drops once the initial hype has died down

I heard the original plan was R3000 - R3200 but that was when we had 6.2 $, when it was at 7$ they said maybe R4000.

So I am guessing at R3500 (Shoot me :)...)

Imports are currently at R4000...

I'm holding thumbs for R3400 + 1 game and games costing R400 - R500.

M$ said an announcment will happen in August... Roll on August...

@Bwana, www.prophecy.co.za (and Take2.co.za) has them locally and is offering a 1 year swap out warranty as well, which is a lot safer than ordering from Amazon, who will not deliver it to SA.

I've got an Xbox 360 Premium that Im selling. It's brand new and sealed and comes with a Elder Scrolls Collectors Edition Game. It's the Americann NTSC version but there are alot of online stores you can order from, and the prices of games are alot cheaper than what it's going to go for here.

My price is R4200 incl overnight shipping to ur post office.

PM me if interested or call me on 0834685567.

Thanks

I only want a PAL version, I've got a few mates in the UK, AUS and UAE which are all PAL, so getting the games that way are easier.

And swapping and sharing in SA is easier with PAL...

I'll wait a month and get a SA version thanks...

I saw an ad supplement from Makro over the weekend that they will be releasing the XBOX 360 in their stores sometime in October. No price was indicated but they are taking orders for when it is finally released.

Check BTGames out

http://www.btgames.co.za/BTGames/release.asp

they have prices now on 4 games with release dates. The first date is the 14th of September....

The prices are awesome R435 per game. That is cheaper than the UK.... :D

Those are very good prices - on par with the UK prices, which is great considering how small our market is here. It seems MS is very keen to have a Xbox 360 presence here and this is why we're seeing cheaper games :) unlike with Sony/$ter-Kinekor with their outrageous, pricing. (remember R650 a game when the PS2 launched?)

There's more price flexibility in the UK though. More special offers and the prices of old games decrease more quickly than in SA.

I agree with you however that that the 'standard' £40 pricetag makes games cheaper here.

I was just checking now and it seems like M$ has decreased the average game cost... It used to be £50 and now it's £40 like you said... When did this happen?

Our prices compare very well though

Superman £39.99 (R511) - Digital Planet R400.14

So we save R110 on a new game... Not that I have any intention of buying Superman but someone might :D
