Xbox One X - Import Query

Hi there.

I am looking forward to the release of the Xbox One X (also referred to as Scorpio for a long time before it's unveiling) and I have some questions I'd like to discuss.

The previous 2 consoles, Xbox One & Xbox One S were both released 12 & 9 months later in SA, respectively.

Therefore, I fear there will be a delay for the Xbox One X as well. However, I have a friend in the UK who is coming to SA 2 weeks after the release of the Xbox One X and is willing to bring it back for me.

So I am going to buy it on Amazon.co.uk and have it sent to him for 449 GB Pounds, which will cost me around R7500, which I'm assuming will be a huge bargain as that isn't too much more expensive than the current Xbox One on the market here in SA.

My query is mostly around power supply. I want to assume I shouldn't have a problem if the console is coming from the UK?

I know the Xbox One X will use the same servers as the current Xbox One so I don't foresee any problems from an Online and Game playing point of view (unless someone has a reason to believe otherwise?)

But I'd just like to get some input from the Console Community on whether this should be a straight-forward exercise?

I'm obviously very excited at the prospect of getting it early as well as paying a much cheaper price than what it should arrive in SA. Customs import VAT should be around R1000 on it's own.

Any opinions welcome.

Thanks & Kind Regards.

UK model will work just fine here :)

I am still using a US imported xbox one, works fine.

It has a multi-volt power supply so you can buy UK or US and simply change the kettle cord or use an adapter.

Also if you wanted to get input from the console community you are really in the wrong place.

You aren't getting it any cheaper though (and really more expensive if you have any warranty issues) because the local price is R7499.

Thanks for answering my power supply query.

However, the local price of R7499 has been removed by Microsoft SA.

This is the reason I'm excited as I'm confident it will now come into SA at quite a bit more expensive. That, or it will come out here much later once the price has dropped, like it did with the original Xbox One when it took an entire year to reach us.

This isn't a brand new product line and uses the same suppliers as before unlike the Xbox One.

Rememebr the S model didn't take that long to get here.

I'm confident the price will be exactly R7499 or within R500 of it.

The S model took 9 months if I remember correctly. :(

I'm also considering importing the XBox One X.

I've done the shipping calculations as I work in logistics.

The Import VAT will cost you approximately R1000. And that is without the Courier charges.

If you can have someone bring it down for you, that's 1st prize.

A note about customs - if you import it directly through Amazon like I did with the XBONE S; the price you see on Amazon is the price you pay. So I paid a few cents under 4k for the xbox one s and was refunded about R500 2 months later because my xbox didn't go through customs. If customs wanted to charge more than the R500, Amazon would have covered the cost.

I'd assume this is better than having someone bring it into the country for you.

Okay cool. I didn't actually go double check.

Just didn't seem that long and I reckoned less than 6 months.

Wasn't it a case of a worldwide shortage though rather than a late import?

I simply assumed the quoted R7500 was including shipping and customs because Amazon was mentioned.

Maybe OP missed that as usually the consoles are a grand or so cheaper at Amazon than local.

Scott came back to me. He is quick like that.

He can pre-order it but you'll have to contact him directly for a price. It's a bit more than what the price will probably be for the official South African version so it's a difficult choice! I'll have to go think about it.

Why would it be more?

I get that, but I have often heard from folks who import themselves that it is cheaper?

Not in this case it looks like. You can try and get quotes from other places to see if it'll be cheaper maybe.

Just did a quick calculation using some Xbox One S that I saw on Amazon for $499. In total with import duties and shipping it came to $589, so around R7,900.

They don't seem to have any pre-orders though - the item is there but there's no price...
