Xbox Series X / S

Just something I noticed today regarding HDR.

My Samsung Q70R can do 4k@60 and 1440p@120, along with VRR and ALLM. The only way to get HDR to work is to enable the "Allow 4k" option, but this means that it automatically bumps the display from 1440p to 4k when a game starts. When backing out to dashboard, the display reverts back to 1440p. Basically I can't find a way to force output 1440p and HDR simultaneously.

Will it not require the game itself to be able to run at 1440p? Did you try other games? I don’t even have my console yet, so just spit balling here.

Have you tried enabling “game mode” on the tv?
Yeah, Sammy did it automatically as it picked up XB.

What I don't get is let's say you have a 1440p 144Hz with HDR, setting it to 4K won't be an option, so how would you get HDR. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong

The "custom" expansion card looks like a standard CFexpress card?

I wonder if anyone tried that yet?

Might just be a "Next gen" CFexpress ie PCI Gen4 instead of Gen3. <- If that is the case we can expect loads of these puppies in a year or 2

Edit: Oh and in other news: Phison broke 7.0 Gig/s record. (Phison is the makers of the NVme controller in the Xbox 1T memory cards.

Edit2: Seems I was right, found original teardown via Tweaktown If anyone is interested. So def hold on buying expansion memory cards until you really, really need one.

Some good news regarding my controller!

Yesterday I took it to work so that I can contact Microsoft. But it was a busy day and I just got a link from them as to where to ask to get it replaced. Last night I thought I'll give it a try and it was suddenly working perfectly. So will keep the controller for now and keep an eye on it.

So besides dropping cash on the insanely expensive 1TB expansion card, what are the best/most affordable external 1TB+ drives to use for storing games (or playing non X/S-optimised games?

I'm using a 1T SATA HD that I took out my Old laptop and a cheap Orico 3.0 Case That works perfectly fine for all the games + Apps like Kodi and Youtube. Only have 2 games that has the X/S icon that refused to install on it.

If you wanna know something really odd....
When I used that case on Raspberry Pi's, they could hardly manage to boot so I bought USB 3 adapter cables on recommendation that work great on Laptop & Raspberry Pi but Xbox refuse to see anything on it?

Edit: I see Takealot is out of stock :( Just to note, I bought the Orico from Matrix for R199 so you can try them? Make sure its the USB 3.0 one and not USB 2.0

Its all gloss, in the Photo the wrapper was still on. I did not like the 3mm double line on the joins, want to cut 45 degree edge so it create more of a single line edge. But didn't get around to the artwork yet.
Cut edges will look better. RazedInBlack would approve ;)
