They will make a killing. Good devices at low prices. If they can provide a local warranty in SA, millions of people will flock to them in the same way Huawei experienced. Good luck

R4k? Usual local inflated pricing.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime 4G 5.5 Inch FHD 2GB 32GB Smartphone 64bit Helio X10 Octa Core 3060mAh 13.0MP - Gray

I can bring that in for R3110, this includes 3 to 5 days shipping and shipping insurance.
Cons: 2 - 5 days processing and warranty lies with the overseas supplier. Tough choice, but I prefer to save a odd R1000 or two. Personally all my imported devices still work, even those that are 3 years plus old.

Oneplus two R5996.10 with 3 to 5 day shipping and insurance. 4GB ram, 64GB rom, octa core snapdragon 810

Xiaomi M4/Mi4 Snapdragon 801 3GB ram, 16GB rom. 3 to 5 day, insurance etc.... R3364.68

None of those 2 I can afford, but damn nice.

Go to xda-developers.com and have a look there. Just be sure you put the right rom on your phone.

I got the latest rom but there seems to be a bug not detecting sim card.Looked at all the forums and tried all versions but still no detection...I'm not the only one as there are plenty of threads about it but no real solution

Double check bootloader, kernal, radio etc... and just reflash those where needed. Mostly those that will stop the sim, gps and camera from working.

You have to be careful with these Chinese phones. I have the India Mi3, and am running on the latest MiUi 7 . Unfortunately still KitKat. But play store/google apps are included
Yip I reflashed with global image and have now got all google apps but no sim detection..

Is that price for the One plus Two inclusive of customs etc ?

TNT, DHL etc.... never charged me import tax or such, or well the one time out of 10 times plus. If you want the link to the site I will paste it here. I only bought a test product from this site and it arrived in 5 days.

More margin shrink for Samsung coming. The Android market is so competitive...I wouldn't be surprised if alot of these guys give up on it in the next few years....there's just not enough money in it to sustain so many OEM's.

Best price for the best quality. Take Oneplus Two vs Iphone 6 plus and the HUGE price difference, and what you get for the cheaper price phone. It's staggering. If you are not a die hard apple fanboy or earning a massive salary to cover that monthly car payment (Apple Iphone 6+) then I would be dumbfounded if someone chose a device R10000 more expensive.

Apple is literally too big to fail at this point. People buying high end phones increasingly turn to Apple...there's no incentive for Apple to fight for the scraps in the midrange and lower. Apple takes 92% of the profit in the smartphone market as a whole...they will outlast pretty much everyone who tries to compete at the high end.

The high end market needs disruption and none of the current Android OEM's are doing it.

I just don't understand why it is though. The expensive price, quality, is it a brand thing, the hardware used that is somehow just different? Lol oh well, still a nice piece of tech I must admit. It is different in all aspects.

Most people are buying the brand, I think...not the hardware.

And it might be something as simple as not being one of the Android clones...it's hard to see what the value proposition / differentiator is between all these Android manufacturers. Samsung managed to market themselves to dominance a few years back but that seems to have faded.

I'd be interested to see if the iPad story is applicable in the iPhone space...there Apple is losing market share but is that just because people aren't buying tablets? Or are they choosing alternatives?

TBH I can't wait to see Apple's version of a Mac on a stick, like the Chinese are doing with the new atom's now.
