Looking good :)

I got my Redmi Note 2 today. Inserted the SIM cards and did some setup on it. I'll play around later and see what there is to offer as it's busy charging up at the moment. It is pretty light compared to my old Lumia, so that's one good thing so far. The battery performance remains to be seen.

Now to go and abuse Bridge Street Brewery's free wifi...

Jarra, you guys are getting me worked up here. I'm trying not to give into the "dark/light side". I'm making up excuses to buy the Redmi note 2.
My Galaxy S4 is now 3 years old.......and it just won't give in.

Just got contacted by the courier for the delivery of may case I ordered form MIA Africa.
Must say, after doing a bank transfer yesterday into their account, it's very quick. Oder confirmed to arrive tomorrow.

Will post picks tomorrow of case and phone in case.
Also to confirm it's the right case for the Redmi Note 2 and not the Note 3

Here is a photo of my previous post on the pouch around my waist.

Anyone else waiting for the Mi5?
Learned a long time that tech moves so rapidly that there's no point in waiting. By the time I'm done playing with the current one there will be a better drool inducing thing just around the corner. There's always something just around the corner.

The Mi5 is the latest Xiaomi. It was released last month. It hasn't reached SA yet. It should be landing towards the end of the month. If I buy now I will effectively be buying last years tech. Why do that when you can get the latest tech in a few weeks time? You aren't making much sense.

Didnt know it'll take a month if it does that's great but you wait while I screw around, in couple of months when the price drops I'll have more time to play with that Mi5 while the Mi6 is around the corner.

I did an OTA update to 7.2.3. Anyone else notice 2 new apk's in the file manager and under downloaded apps there is. Analytics. Android work assistant and wallpaper carousel. Anyone else have those?

Also is anyone running encryption? I encrypt all my phones and the encryption on the note 2 was super quick. So it may not do full disk encryption and only encrypt user data.

I prefer to also stick with something a year or so older with bugs worked out and more support for other stuff/accessories etc..

Tech moves too fast and as soon as you get the newest things, they're old already due to time it takes for product launches and Country releases/shipments.

If tech moves so fast it make no sense to buy even older tech. It is for that reason that I do not buy a phone that has been on the market for more than 6 months. I always buy a phone as it lands.

Nope, don't have those after my OTA update yesterday.
Update: Had a look, already had those installed.

Is it really that necessary to have the latest tech? Does it increase your productivity or improve your life in any way to have the latest phone?

My Bro has a 3 months old phone. My 2 year old one is faster, leaner and better in terms of speed and productivity than his. So he got very upset when he played with my phone.

So the question is, what are you doing on your phone that makes it better than mine?

In the bigger scheme of things, obviously not. It is a piece of tech and not a life giving instrument. But as a geek I want cutting edge tech. Me reason why some would buy a BMW when a Corolla can in theory do the job just as well.

To answer your question, the new phone will have a better SOC, screen, build quality etc. Now, if non of these things matter then by all means buy an old phone.

Tell you bro to pay attention when buying stuff.

so it's how you use it that counts? *files away for equipment-related discussions*

For many people it does make a difference. My OnePlus One pretty much changed my life. It's such a joy to use every day compared to 99% of the other phones I've had or used.

The thing is, the latest flagships have barely introduced any new tech during the last 2 years. All I'd gain by upgrading is a fingerprint scanner, a slightly better camera, slightly better build quality and 1-2 mm less thickness.

The age of a device is irrelevant. What matters is how it gets the job done, and if it does so poorly the reason is often because the tech is lacking. A 2 year old flagship is obviously going to be better than a brand new entry level device and possibly even a mid-range one. So the devices in question need to be specified.

Got my cover and I can confirm it is for the Redmi Note2 cover that I received today :) Very happy!
Gives it a nice grip and feels solid.

That cover looks pretty good. Me likey.

What me not likey is this battery life - I have 28% left with 2h45m screen on time. I unplugged it at 7h30 this morning. Just been using the camera for 15 snaps and Whatsapp for the rest of the time.

It's drained 4% in me just typing this message and the battery meter reports the screen has used 70% of the battery (brightness about 40%)

Using MIUI 7.1.3. I hope it improves with a few charge/discharge cycles
