Dont touch that mediatek one with a 10'' pole please

Lets hope we get the snapdragon... XDA did a review and it seems that the only place the SD version falls short is the camera... but then again... its not a flagship...
You're posting rubbish now. Mediatek is appearing in a lot more devices to point where their revenue is on the incline.

Won't be surprised if they start appearing in the flagship Apples and Samsung's as Snapdragon shares continue to fall.

I agree, Mediatek's recent offerings have gone leaps and bounds.

I think within the next 2 years they will have cought up. The only issues are IP rights related

Competition in the mobile chip space is essential to competitive prices Volksieboi we won't have sensibly prices phones without competition. The very thing you curse is the thing making smart phones so accessible that you can video call your mother or that hipster friend that doesn't want to conform... :D

Ooh , looks like I scored :whistling:

It was in a separate box but looked like a pre-packaged bundle.

Wish I waited a little, cheaper and a Mi Band. How much sweeter can they make this damn deal!

You're right, MT chips are popping up more regularly and many of the Chinese brands are using them (Xiaomi, VIVO, Meizu, etc)

Not so much in the "Popular" (samsung, LG, HTC) handsets. The Sony M5 was MT powered, but i wasn't really impressed.

SD powered devices are also getting better support in dev/custom rom/kernel space, and given some time and if the MT sources get published, we could see them on even keel eventually

but for now.... eeeeh

There is a reason the Chinese guys use Mediatek. Its a cheaper chipset than the Snapdragon, meaning that their cost to assemble is alot cheaper than say if they went Snapdragon.

Alot of the mediatek chips are pretty solid, and on par with many of last years snapdragon chips, or this years mid range ones.

Many of the Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Meizu, Lenovo etc are focussing alot on the screen, battery and the overall hardware package. So essentially they want to give you a premium ish looking and feeling device, at a fraction of the cost, and at a fraction of their build costs.

You will also see they doing alot more marketing campaigns, because its something that was lacking to get the brands to be recognised outside of China. Again, by using cheaper but still capable chipsets, they have a bit if freedom to do other thing's to promote their brand

Even Sony is going all out MediaTek. If it wasn't for MediaTek, I suspect they would've been out of the mobile phone market a long time ago. Remember that some Snapdragon budget chips were sluggish and incompetent compared to custom chips from China.

I'm not disagreeing with you lads.

MT just needs more time in the market. And that will come as the Chinese brands are on the rise.
Personally, I'm sitting on the fence(for now), i do see the support growing over at XDA which is a good thing. Devs will learn to "exploit/optimise" the phones/chips with custom roms/kernels etc, and that will feed back to MT who will design better chips, and so on and so on

Also... on a side note...At R2399 (and the outside possibility of a free miBand) :) the note 2 is looking really tempting.
