My question is, how does India and China sell the phone for less than R2200 with a 1 year warranty, when we have to pay R3799 for the same phone?

Am not looking at special offers, just the normal pricing. You are essentially paying R1600 for an extra year warranty? We are getting shafted, clearly.

How much was the customs and shipping on your phone? Did the shipper list it as a phone?

Yeah, I don't know how an item as small as a phone can double in price shipping from China to SA.

The price is actually less than $150 (R2100) for a basic Redmi Note 3 in China. In India, the price for a Redmi Note 3 is R2200 . Here, the normal price is R3799. How does that happen?
see here http://mybroadband.co.za/news/gadgets/98022-smartphone-imports-in-sa-what-you-should-know.html

$150 x 15 to get to ZAR = 2250
+ SARS 15% luxury item = 2587,5

+ 7% Duty = 2768,625
14% VAT = 2949,75
+ shipping? lets say 10% of original price? R225 = 3174,75

+ 10% Distributor (MIA) mark up = R3492,225
+ 10% Re-seller (e.g. Takealot) mark up = R3841,4475

How does the Mi4 compare to the Redmi Note 3? I know the Mi has has 3gb of RAM and a different processor, but is it notably faster? And the camera?

Are you serious? MIA gets it at the same price as I can get it at retail? You don't really know how business works, do you?

You have to remove all the margins, vat, shipping charges on the other side first, then add a bulk discount, then do your calculation. And using the correct dollar rate might work too.

E.g in India , https://www.flipkart.com/redmi-note...STMOBEG3ZZY5XUVUJGQ8NMZL&pid=MOBEG3ZZY5XUVUJG . Do you really think there are no taxes, shipping and margins included in that price?

If you want to continue to be shafted, feel free. Not everyone is like you

 it was a simple demonstration, obliviously there are various factors that comes in to play.
e.g.
Having a local footprint for distribution, warranty and support.
Local certification requirements.
Cash flow (the Chinese in my experience like their money up front VS. some re-sellers expecting a 30 day account).
Shipping and insurance.
CPA (the one where you need to refund a buyer when he does not like a device within 7 days etc.)
Taxes and duties.
etc.

And using the correct dollar rate might work too.
Doesn't help when the stock you already have came in at 15.

I don't know what India does/doesn't do. I think India probably doesn't have as strict regulations, as much taxes and that they are a much bigger market than us (economies of scale...).

All I know is that it is a free market and if you think you that can distribute these phones for R1k cheaper locally, then why don't you? Why doesn't anyone else? Surely, if you are right, then there is a huge business opportunity here?

I am not trying to justify getting shafted, I am just saying that I can see where it comes from.

Not bad download, bootloader might be locked. If so, you need to request Xiaomi to unlock it through the unlock website

Thank you, yes that is the case. Evident when I try to reboot into recovery. I have sent a request to unlock. This is kinda ****ty.

Do I have to go through all this pain just to get MIUI 8?

Battery life on my Mi Band 2 has improved dramatically since I removed the 3rd party Mi Band Tools app.

Claimed life is 20 days but I'm sure I'll see 25 or so days before it dies

My original estimation was so close

The Updater app doesn't want to fetch it
Just came to say that the Note 3 we have is actually the Special Edition and MIUI 8 stable is not out yet. When I got the correct Developer ROM flashing it was easy with Updater app
