R7999 from here http://mia.africa.com/za/ - Note that this is not the Pro version... so 3GB RAM and 32GB storage... NON-expandable.

Maybe there will be launch specials... lets hope

That being said... at the launch the price was given at around USD260 for the same model...

There's math to do

Wow ... why so expensive? :crying:

Orange should start doing Xiaomi

It's expensive because Jacob Zuma is playing with fire and the Rand tanked.

Dunno. It's your job to look into it.

If you find a well priced store but it doesn't ship to SA, you can use a mail forwarding service. I use MyUS where necessary.

As for import costs:
- Charger value is exempt from duties.
- Courier fees not included.
- Duty will be 14% of the remaining declared value.
- VAT will be calculated on 110% of that remaining value plus the import duty.
- 3 day courier typically costs $40-60 incl insurance.
- Disbursement fee from courier to handle customs for you is usually R150-250.
- I recommend DHL Express.

ever watch Peanuts... whenever the teacher talks to Charlie Brown then all you hear is :"kwa kwa kwa kwaaa"

ek verstaan die goed glad nie. :( :erm:

There is import duty. It's 14%.
Yeah no vat on imports I know but you would have paid vat @ 14% if it was bought locally so it's actually the 110% that takes that additional bite from your wallet. Or 14% on the 110% you know what I mean which works out at an effective 15.4%

Can't find any screen protectors & cases for my Redmi Note 2 locally :crying:
I've ordered from China but that will take a long time, anyone know where I can find some locally?

I've seen/heard of a site called Chinabuy, not sure if they're any good?

No, import duty is 14%. VAT is also 14%. I've done this several times before. Always the same charges from customs.

I tried them but i have to wait for it to ship from china hence the name. I'm looking for local stock

Fair enough. I know IC stocks some Redmi 2 goodies, maybe they can source the Redmi Note goodies as well?

ChinaMall by main reef road has a shop named "Jay Go Go" that has redmi and mi 4 tpu covers.
Edit: They sell them for R80 each. Pretty expensive for silicon covers.

I wouldn't mind.
But R80 for cover and r100 for courier seem financially unreasonable. Just order from china for more awesome covers.

I have been looking for the best price for the Mi5 and this is the best I could get. Still I will wait for 2 months before I buy.

I'm sure the Mi4s will kill here in SA... They really need to bring this device here... And support it well with updates.

the Mi5 at 8K for the 32GB model just makes no sense when you see that the price equivalent is USD 260... thats +/- R4100 how does MIA come up with R8K ??!!

I am personally looking forward to the Redmi 3 mentioned on gsmarena but no word of it on the official Xiaomi site.

But I agree, the importers are really loading the prices to the point that they are no longer competitively priced to take on the established brands over here :(

EDIT: aliexpress has a sale starting 29 March and some of their Xiaomi products are pretty well priced with a big chunk knocked off them, FWIW... (http://sale.aliexpress.com/__pc/329_xiaomi.htm?spm=a2g01.7946317.0.30.SKsv0n#u4869b8)
