R7999 seems a bit steep. Can't imagine what the Mi5 Pro with 128GB/4GB RAM and ceramic back will cost....

I've heard nothing back from MIA as of today, and now I am really unsure whether I should jump and get the Redmi 2 Pro now or wait and hope the Redmi 3 is released here soon...

MIA is pretty useless in providing timelines.

The Redmi 3 Pro is a steal. Whats the difference between that and Mi 4s?

We are missing out on all things Xiaomi it seems. I see the Redmi 2 Pro and Mi Band combo for R2399 that was on Takealot yesterday has disappeared today...

Noooooo, I put it off for too long. Well, I hope they get the new Mi Bands, with the heart rate monitor now.

Ditto. You should look on Bidorbuy, there is a seller there selling one for R295. Shipping is about R50

I was in Beijing in November and made sure to stop off at the Xiaomi store and bought a phone. I had read and heard so much about them that I just wanted one to play around and see how good it really was. I ended up buying the Mi4C for $200. Its a really nice phone, build quality is really good and it does pretty much what any smartphone should do. I never end up using it because I have an Iphone 6, but if I were travelling, it would become my travelling phone.

I ended up loading Cyanogenmod 13 on it and its made the phone a whole lot better.

I tweeted MIA to ask them if they are planning on bringing in accessories for the Redmi Note 2. Seems I might bite the bullet and fork out the little bit extra for the Note 2 and give the Redmi 2 Pro a pass, but I'd like to know that I can get a screen protector and a cover relatively soon instead of waiting 4 weeks+ for it to arrive from overseas

EDIT:

I highlighted the differences that would sway me towards the Mi 4S. Pity they gimped the battery capacity. YMMV of course :)

The Mi4s seems really good...

but

Consider that its only $50 - $100 cheaper than the mi5, then spending the extra grand (maybe less) for better all round package makes sense. (and its way better SD820, better camera, much better build, and latest android version)

On the other hand.

The redmi 3 pro costs about half the cost of the Mi4s (+/- $150), but the step down in specs seems negligible, and.... DAT battery!!!

also, there seems to be decent bit of dev going on for the Redmi 3 - it has its own Xda forum and theres even a cyanogenmod 12.1 build out for it. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-3) hopefully this will flow over to the redmi 3 Pro

I dont know if the Mi4s will enjoy the same because it seems like the Mi5 is going to gobble more sales.

Its a pity though, i really like the mi4s. its a real stunner, and i dig the fingerprint scanner placement, and the 64GB on board. Just the price seems to hurt it.

*Edit: Disclaimer - Prices are estimates from reviews i've read. (have a look on androidpit and android authority)

I fully agree; the pricing model for the Mi devices seem out of whack when compared to the Redmi devices.

It seems as if Xiaomi is punting the Redmi devices as midrange devices with great features and the Mi line of devices as the flagship range. But interesting to note that high quality components can be found right across the board, and the Redmi devices in particular have some nifty features like removable batteries.

I placed my order on Takealot for the Redmi Note 2; I'll see how I feel come Monday and if I am still keen I will transfer the money and complete the order. Just a pity about the lack of accessories...

Price becomes a big factor though. I think the Redmi 3 will be less than 3k whereas the he Mi4s will be closer to 5k.

I think that when you start dealing with batteries in excess of 2500mAh then the removable part becomes a non-event. especially if the devices are doing max 1080p even better if its 720p

Lets face it, if you could choose between better battery life and a drop from 2k to 1080p... its a no brainer.

I'm not the type of user that runs down a battery by lunchtime (My Lumia 1320 unplugged at 07:00 is on 82%) but having the option of buying a new battery two years down the line when the original one becomes moeg is tempting...

It seems cheap until the weak rand and import charges are taken into account. By than its cheaper just to get the mi4 from incredible connection

True that...I should have the Redmi Note 2 by Tuesday if all goes well. I'll post up here my findings :)

I feel your pain, mate. The import duties schnaai us bigtime. If the package is marked as a gift I wonder what the odds will be that customs will ignore it? I remember DealExtreme having that option and my package arrived without being searched. That said it was only an OBD adapter but it's something, at least

Been using xiaomi mi4 for like 2 weeks now.
Great phone. But GPS is broken. Using google maps the phone has no idea where you are.

Gps works fine on my redmi note 2. Are you using "high accuracy", wireless + gps to get a quick lock?

IIRC there is a GPS diagnostic tool somewhere on the Play Store. It might have been called GPSFix or something to that effect.

Maybe the GPS is faulty on your unit? :(
