Realised that I ordered both my old mibox 3s from Takealot, maybe geewiz were always including the free adaptor, I don't know

Also noticed that although sealed, the box arrived a bit dented, and when opening the unit was a bit dirty ... Not sure if this is a refurbished unit or something

I recall getting a fire tv and so I decided to watch an unboxing clip of it on youtube and I kid you not the fire tv being unboxed had the same dent on the box that mine also had. Not sure if they all fell from a truck or whats the deal but your mentioning of the dented box brought back up that priceless moment.

To close off on my input.

I got the 2 x Mi Box S units, orange box sealed from a local re-seller as already mentioned on previous page of this thread
Unsealed the boxes, paired them to my phone, updated both, installation was a breeze.
Returned the 2 Migica 495x units to Makro, there is simply no comparison, chalk and cheese.
Thumbs up to Mi Box S.
Thank you Guys.
Those mygiga boxes are terrible, also bought one for my dad a while back, the UI and remote are shocking. Very happy with the mi box, as you said it's chalk and cheese when compared to the mi box.

Sorry, I tried searching this 200 page thread but I'm struggling to find the info

Please recommend a USB hub that will work with the mibox? Basically to copy movies from USB memory stick to Mibox hard drive without needing a computer

will any generic usb hub work?

edit: i found something like this in an old box, will test it and report back

Any correctly functioning hub should work, even if it includes a network adapter or similar. The hub part should work, the extra bit/s may or may not work. I use a Tarsus hub time to time with no issues.

Why would you want to copy movies to mibox when the memory is so limited?

HI ,
anybody having issues with kodi losing passthrough audio settings?

the passthrough option and transcoding option disappears and it only outputs 2 channel.
requires reboot and change of setting every so often
this was after the last kodi update 2 weeks ago

many thanks.

I think what he means is he wants to plug in a flash drive and copy movies from it to a hard drive that is also plugged into the Mi Box, instead of plugging the hard drive out and having to do it on his PC, perhaps a 3.5" powered hard drive that makes it inconvenient to move it around all the time.

Yes this is exactly what I meant. I need to easily take movies to friends / family house on a memory stick and copy directly to their mibox.

My cheapo generic USB hub worked fine, I guess that's thanks to the Android OS.

Tried copying a movie using Kodi, got the error below:
"Copy Failed - Failed to copy at least one file, check the log for more information" unfortunately no info in the log, even after enabling all logging options in settings

Then tried copying the movie using File Commander, got error below:
"Read only access - Application has read-only access to tghis folder on /storage/6E00-D536"

Both Kodi and FIle Commander have permissions to access internal storage. How do you grant write permission to external drives?

If I find the answer somewhere else online I'll post an update here.

You can't, it's an Android TV limitation, apps only have permission to write within their own folder.

That's unfortunate - so guess i'll need a computer to move files from the memory stick to the external hard drive connected to the mibox.

Would it work to connect both the Hard Drive and the Memory Stick to USB Hub, then connect the Hub to the adapter at the link below, then connect adapter to a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 9.0 Pie ... and then copy files using a file manager on the phone?

Alternatively to use something like this to connect 2 USB drives to the phone

I said Android TV but I'm pretty sure it's Android in general that can't write to external storage without root. Some file explorers have an enable write permission but I can't really say for sure if it's going to work or not.

Then there is also the thing of will the phone power both devices at the same time without a powered hub or even be able to see them both at the same time.
