I was just looking at a game today and thought to myself this clearly would play better on a controller and I already have the Mi Box but then I thought no no maybe at a later date.

He used to use PCM and it was fine... But today he bought a small Yamaha AV system was excited to try Netflix 5.1.

He just phoned and mentioned sound break up that he'd never had before

It's something to do with Dolby digital processing

Netflix Works perfect in my xbox and much louder as well

It's a known issue, the only issue I have left with the Mi Box.

If he wants I can tell you how to fix it with Kodi.

I wouldn't say huge issue, I watched The Highwaymen the other day and that's over 2 hours long and it only happened three times, it's seemingly random because you can rewind when it happens and it won't happen again and it can happen twice in a couple of minutes and then only again more than an hour later.

Optical can't do Dolby Digital Plus, that's what Netflix uses.

Optical will give stereo yes, it won't downmix, that's where Kodi comes in because when you use Netflix via Kodi it has all the capabilities of the Kodi media player.

I see some people have mentioned it came with Oreo... So that may be the issue.

I think it does, afaik it's a bug with the Amlogic kernel which they both should share.
