Hi All,

I have been using Kodi for the last 10 years. My setup is a windows 10 box with a Rii remote. I didn't really consider a box TV device until now. I'm very keen on getting the Xiaomi Mi box. A few questions before i commit..

- Prices are currently high with no known specials on this box. Im considering buying from Aliexpress or Gearbest. Has anyone done this route and any custom issues?Waiting period?

- Are there any fakes on the market? I notice a Chinese and international version with the Chinese being considerably cheaper.

- Are there different models to this device?

- My setup is normally fully customised Kodi with addons and RD. Is this possible with this box?

- Are there any other boxes that can be recommended. I will mainly be using it for Kodi, sometimes DSTV and a bit of Terrarium.

Sorry about the list of questions but need to spend my money well

Thanks!

Best thing I have done was get a Mi Box, was also doing the Kodi thing.

Any usb keyboard/remote I have plugged in has work flawlessly so you should be able to keep using your remote (although you don't have to).

I just bought mine of Takealot and rush ordered it to next day delivery (I hate waiting) even at R1500 I think it is great value.

I don't think there are different models but just to be sure I like to buy from a reputable dealer so you have come back.

You can fully customized Kodi but you end up not using Kodi because Terrarium is better.

I think the only other box that is significantly better is Nvidia shield but its damn expensive. Some will say Apple TV but unless you have a mac with developer rights (99 dollars a year) it is just a really expensive Netflix player/groovy paper weight.

Best answer yet. Thank you!

Ease your concerns and get local stock

uniterm R1,449.00
miphones R 1,489.00
geewiz R 1,485
miafrica R 1,499.00
cyberrange R1,399.00
gearbest R895.16 with minimum 5 weeks wait and still have to pay custom duties

I think the extra R400 is worth more than anxiety on whether will you receive your order

Thanks. I will wait a bit for a possible special.

That sucks. Main reason i purchased it was for the built in chromecast feature.

The problem is not with the Mi Box. There are complaints out there from folks with an actual ChromeCast device as well. The issue lies with Google Chrome, not the ChromeCast protocol. Casting from Android devices works flawlessly.

Great answer but my main use will be to replace DSTV decoder and dish and to watch live sport mainly football on a 20mb fibre line without compromising on quality,

The feedback from other threads are that the quality is not the same,

I'm divided on what to do

Stay with satellite or suck it up and live with it. DStv Now stuttering happens regardless of device or Internet speed in my experience.

When everything is going well you cant tell the difference between DSTV internet or the decoder. There is cutting out, the whole stream goes dead. In those times I cross over to Mobdro and watch there most of the time its decent quality but not always HD.

I would say you have 95% up time on DSTV Now in full HD and 20mb/s is a fine speed.

Honestly for me DSTV Now has actually been fun since the app and before that I didn't use it.

Is there a difference in quality between watching on browser vs app?

How's the quality on sport? Also full HD and no lag 95% of the time?

There is always a difference - how big is your computer monitor vs how big is your TV, for starters ...

It's a 50inch plasma TV. Currently gives a great picture with decoder,

Planning to convert to a Mi box

It is not. No matter what line speed you have

It could be great until 500 other users log in and also watch, dstv can't keep up on their side

Had this with soccer final, that it got so bad would start buffering

I haven't tried Xplor but Solid explorer is one of the best file managers for Android. I use it on my phone and I have linked my Dropbox account to it so I can easily send stuff to the Mibox via Dropbox.

Ahhh ok. Same with Xplor. I have my Google drive and Dropbox as folders on Xplor from where I can access my files/apk's.

Hey all,

I just bought a box from Kloppers, plugged it into my Pioneer receiver and 1080p Samsung TV. It then went straight into updating itself to Oreo, as well as updating all apps.
I however have a (what seems to be a common problem) with Netflix in that it stops playing after 10-15sec with the tvq-100 (5.2.5) error, when trying to play a movie, or certain series (Star Trek Discovery for instance works perfectly in FHD, DD+ etc).
I've tried taking the Pioneer out of the loop and connecting directly to the TV, I've tried factory reset, connecting to other monitors, changing HDMI cables, etc. DRMinfo always reports HDCP as unprotected.
Anything else I could possibly try before taking the unit back to Kloppers?
