another tax, and a way to earn money from it,
soon enough taxis will need to record how many passengers they carry on a daily basis, and pay a tax on the number.

OR
the CCP taught the ANC a few things.

Not at all.
That's what the passport is for. Every entry and exit is recorded.

Exactly. When I was doing fly in, fly out overseas I had to submit a complete photocopy of my passport to SARS (including front and back cover) and I'd summarise the trips in and out in a spreadsheet.

SA passports are recorded by home affairs.

I've got a British one, as you know. But regardless, I'd imagine the submission requirements are still the same though as I wouldn't expect SARS to do the work for you.

Its probably SARS trying to do us a favour because home affairs let people enter via the back door at the airport.

That way SARS can track how many illegal people in SA as well.

Soo apart from that I remember in some countries the tax man has a wonderful pass.

Soo for you to travel
1. If you are registered for tax, you dont need to pay a cent to leave the country
2. If you arent registered for tax, you will pay a R20 000 exit fee to travel

Or its about that much. That way it forces everyone to be registered for tax.

Obviously kids are excluded, but heck my child was registered with SARS since she was 5 months old and has actually paid more tax than most thats been working 10 years.

I don't have a SA passport. Why would you need to submit any overseas trip details to SARS ?

I don't either. But you have to tell them how long you are out of the country working as it affects your tax rate. Used to be more than 185 days you pay no tax, now you pay no tax on first million earned.

Edit: this is for those who work out of SA but are tax residents.

Mind telling us which countries have this "rule"/"system"?
