You’ll now need a travel pass before departing or entering South Africa

Seems a bit short sighted that we can't register our valuables online before flying, would save the no doubt long queues this will bring.
Well that's exactly what they're doing, which would be fine if it wasn't compulsory and they weren't also issuing a "travel pass".

I only read that you could register your goods at the airport. I didn’t see a bit about online.

Dodgers will simply drive to neighboring countries and fly in and out from there, as this is only for airports.
There are millions of adults in SA who have never been registered with SARS. Are they going to be prohibited from flying?

Why was this enforcement provision never gazetted in regulation?
Why was there no public comment period?

I expect that not even SARS knows exactly what they want to do with these passes yet. Where are all the rules and limitations spelled out in detail anywhere? I doubt any framework or much legislation exists, which is why there's only speculation and talk in the media. SARS are fishing to see how the public reacts. And that's what makes them dangerous. They should be vehemently rejected by all travelers. Why should anyone bend over willingly for these dictates? Let them try legislate these passes and face all the scrutiny and resistance that they're due in court first.
Is it not already operational next month???!!

SA is a police state. In most other countries you just go through the green line and nobody cares. In SA they regularly search people. What a joke.
I have been searched once and once only. I have traveled countless times.

People on this forum still think it's a customs goods declaration. It's not. It's an income tax declaration. If your tax affairs are in order, you fly. If not, no fly.

I have been out of the country more times than I care to count and I've never been searched. I was stopped once when I had a very large RC sailboat (in its box) that I bought in Hong Kong. They pulled me over and asked if I had a receipt. I didn't have the receipt but opened the box and showed them that I had already started working on it, so wasn't intending to sell it, so they just let me through.

Possibly, but its more than likely a way for the ANC to prevent comrades from defecting to other countries when the poo gets really sticky in shchithole SA

How do you or a Home Affairs official determine when you pass through passport control before you board a plane that your tax affairs are in order?

I spoke to a travel agent at Constantia Village today and she has never heard of this requirement
