Taking the skill out of the driver. This can only be bad.

100% in agreement. Parking a car is not about being able to park, it is about learning to be "spatially aware", of knowing where your wheels are, where the boundaries of your car are, which is an absolute critical part of learning to drive properly.

The stupidest idea yet to come out of the BMW factory.

Its a great idea. Parking bays are getting narrower in Cape Town CBD making it harder to park a 7 series. I walk past BMW show room each day and see how wide these premium beamers are to most modern cars.

I'm all for automatic parking and would love it on my car. It has many advantages in cities.

You can't park in a narrow bay yourself? Why not let it switch your indicators on automatically too... also seems hard for many people to do.

Learn to drive.

I can park on a tickey, and I'm all for this sort of automation.

I didn't object when starter motors replaced crank handles, or when automatic gearboxes appeared. Or hydraulic brakes, or power steering, or satnav systems. Neither is new the driverless tech something to oppose. Etc. Etc. :p

But I do think those who prefer to fiddle with parking manually should be legally allowed to do so.

Of course Mercedes don't need this feature. High-end Merc drivers have valet parking. :p
