So that's the EFF and BLF, and actually most of "woke" twitter taken care of... now for some peace and quiet.

Meh, we'll get the 'those Facebook posts weren't made by our members. We distance ourselves from them. It's an imperialist plot to destabilise us' shpiel from these two...

A message which threatens persons with damage to property or violence

As an extension of the above, the Bill also makes it an offence to distribute messages which threatens a group of people with violence, or with damage to their property.

The Bill clarifies that ‘group of persons’ means characteristics that identify an individual as a member of a group,

These characteristics include without limitation:

  • Race;
  • Gender;
  • Sex;
  • Pregnancy;
  • Marital status;
  • Ethnic or social origin;
  • Colour;
  • Sexual orientation;
  • Age;
  • Disability;
  • Religion;
  • Conscience;
  • Belief;
  • Culture;
  • Language;
  • Birth and nationality.

All my talk of Mongolians has finally caught up with me.

Edit:

These characteristics include without limitation:

  • Conscience;
  • Belief;

The hell is this supposed to mean? I could go to jail for telling a flat earther to jump off the edge?

If anyone can tell me, who will be doing the investigation and how will they be able to trace a person? It will most definitely not be the SAPS. We can probably expect a large number of road blocks and random stops in public places where they will be inspecting your mobile devices....

Is this materially different from existing laws?

I suppose law makers have to justify their existence, but incitement to violence and disseminating nude pictures of people without their consent, etc etc is amply covered by existing laws, so why do lawmakers seem to always feel the need to create whole new categories, just because they may occur online?

This is them trying to feel important.. and of course to fit in with making. more laws, you know the more numerous the laws, the more corrupt the State...

I wish you would not call politicians 'lawmakers'. It encourages them to make more, when we need less.

Yes as always - the devil is in the detail.
