You may have to back-pay your domestic worker under the new minimum wage laws

As sad as it is the there are people earning this little, you are taking the value out of the value vs inconvenience equation.

Just like petrol attendants, domestic workers aren't really needed.

I disagree.

Our domestic is wonderful. Her salary is significantly higher than double the new proposed minimum wage. That is before any of her benefits.

She is worth every cent.

However. We have a big house, dogs, etc etc etc. I can understand that the value isn't always worth the expense. Just want to point out it isn't always so

Sorry @Hamster

I missed this -

“Another interesting development as a result of the Act is that the BCEA has also been amended to include section 9 (a) which states that an employee or a worker who earns less than the earnings threshold, and who works for less than four hours on any day, must be paid for four hours work on that day,” the legal expert pointed out.

So does this mean car guards must get R80?

The dude who's meant to clean my house isn’t worth a cent. He just spends all his time on MYBB and jerking off.

I know for a fact that he hasn’t cleaned since September.

Nope we are more than fine.
I am all for minimum wage workers being protected - but it has to be up to them. In some rural areas work and money is limited. They should be allowed to decide to work for lower if there is no other choice.

My domestic allows us to spend more time as a family instead of cleaning and ironing.

Also when the kids where toddlers having a full time domestic allowed my wife to continue growing her small business.

We are in a better place today because of employing a domestic. We also pay a proper wage.

I disagree. I would not have survived working, 3 kids and a home without my housekeeper. She runs the house and I do my company and family. She helped bring my kids up too. Dead serious when I say some of us are not meant to be housewives

Are there really people who pay below minimum wage?

I've never come across one, or even heard of anyone who does.

Hopefully this will be implemented across all sectors of the working class. The items exempt from VAT does not necessarily mean that people earning this little can afford them bcs the retailers are just gonna increase the base price and I have seen nothing of real impact from any of the previously reported price fix scandals in the media. Oh well, guess we can't have a corruption free society.

Law probably implemented to assist foreign nationals.

Can't think of anyone who has a local as a domestic.
