You may have to back-pay your domestic worker under the new minimum wage laws

If we've been paying more than minimum, can we also then claim those monies back from our domestics?
These laws must be fairly applied to both sides of the argument, not?

Are there really people who pay below minimum wage?

I've never come across one, or even heard of anyone who does.

Yes. Sadly there are also people that are extremely racist and treat their domestic like junk, thinking if they give them expired food and old clothes that they should be grateful for the R90 or less a day they got. I didn't think it is possible until I saw it with my own eyes.

There are also some communities where there is 70-80% unemployment, and those who employ get very small salaries or pensions. In those cases I think you really don't have much of a choice. But both sides don't have it easy.

but if you throw your old clothes in the bin and the domestic worker takes it, is it theft?

Its actually not really racism, and just generally being a fscking terrible person. The paying minimum wage or below happens across racial lines. Treating your domestic like shyte happens across racial lines.

I fully agree. I've read and heard horror stories of how black people treat black domestics. It's a "class" thing, not a race thing.

That is true. What I personally saw was pure racism and a hatred towards someone thinking they don't deserve more. People like that still exist unfortunately. There are also those terrible people who just don't care.
