You think you have a steady hand? You don't!

Most monopods just have the same screw as a tripod, so you can stick a tripod head onto it.

My complaint with monopods are that my biggest problem is horizontal movement, which the monopod doesn't really help me with. In fact, anchoring it vertically seems to worsen the horizontal shake. Maybe I should drink less coffee... :(
Which is probably why they're so well suited for panning shots. ;)

WRT monopod, I think I've put this up before, but I use a belt-mounted monopod pouch, as shown in these pics. A Manfrotto 234RC monopod head for adjusting elevation (and quick release), panning is done by swivelling the hips. Really steady shots can be obtained by leaning up against something.

(the model here, and inventor of this particular monopod pouch, is a freelance sports photographer who specialises in motorsport and rugby. he uses it at most of the events he covers.)

I thought about this when I noticed my new backpack came with a holder for a tripod that could be attached to my belt and used in a similar fashion, then I realised I could achieve the same thing just by putting the end of the monopod in my pocket. :)

On the other hand neither are practical when you're shooting with two cameras.

I would fall over forwards because I weigh about the same as that lens he is demo'ing with.

Fortunately I don't have that problem. I'm more worried that my boep would be in the way...
