Damage needs to exceed 70% of the value I think. And in most cases insurance companies have a 30 day waiting period just in-case your car is found. Because ocne they have settled the claim and the vehicle is found, they are stuck with it.

Well, considering the prices that panelbeaters quote nowadays, a 70% figure is not hard to achieve at all.

I have two Volvo's.

Don't know why I bother with insurance. Nobody has ever stolen a Volvo!

dont be too sure; if the tsotsis friend has a volvo and they need a certain part; they just go steal one like it;
even a low risk chinese car could be hijacked because they need something exactly like it; like a engine mounting or something.....

as to the subject at hand:

yes and no; yes to beat the fark out of them; and no becuse the car will be worthless after they installed the township modifications onto it!
still until today ; check every single red nissan sentra that goes by hoping Id see it.......

Nah, they would have probably driven the *** out of it. I would have insurance pay out and get the new model. Ez

Personally I wouldn't want it back. A few years ago a friend's A3 got hijacked. The car was found after a shootout with the Police. Turns out it was used in cash-in-transit heists and was involved in 9 murders too. Insurance had already settled and they gave him an option to buy it back from them for very cheap. He drove it once around the block and said no thanks.

So what happened when they find your car 2 weeks after it was stolen and the insurance already paid out and you already bought a new car? Does the insurance ask for the money back or do they take the 'stolen' car?

Mind me asking what's the difference VS they just taking it out of teh car park?

Do you get to pick whether or not you take the car back once recovered? :p

A hijacking would be traumatic and seeing the car would bring back the terror.

Nope, they stuck with it. They will sell it off to the highest bidder. Either for a repair and resell or parts. They already "bought" the car from you when they settled.

My car was stolen by someone I knew.

I called Tracker and told them to go fetch the car. Little did I know that they had to follow procedure.

The car was impounded and the VIN changed to indicate that it was stolen and recovered (Code 3). I was was so fscking pissed off because I could have made a plan to go fetch it myself!

One of the reasons recovery companies make me think twice.
Did you manage to re-cover the car under insurance?

Well. mine was stolen a red bubble shape sentra. police call me after a month to come and identify it at the police station in retreat. they mess it up badly, took off my mags and replaced with steelies , take out my sound system, damage my ignition, my engine was covered in oil. 5 gear bad hopping out.

But it was still my car and i want it back. so after a running start i took her home and restore her after 4 months to a better condition. I Think because it was my first car i was very crazy over her. till today she is my first luv lol

No ways, the car could have been used in another crime somewhere and you have to explain to these trigger happy cops all the time they stop you at road blocks.

I don't want a tracking device because I've seen in four different vehicles how badly they're usually installed. Its no wonder cars develop rattles.
I have not had any rattles with my tracking units. That said if I do have issues I'll just walk down to the technician that installed it and have him sort it out. ;)

i was held up at home tied up and my car was taken. the tracking company found it a couple hours later and surprising there was not a scratch on it, it was hell of a dirty but that was it. I really didn't want it back.... bad memories and all that. it also smelled and drove completely differently, they drove it hard and you could feel it. I took it for a full valet and after a couple of months the feeling of being violated passed and i enjoyed my car again. no one was hurt in my incident and i think if someone was it would be a different story...

Is this a standard process for all stolen and recovered cars?

Well if the insurance company would replace it, then I'd rather get a new car.

Wouldn't want to drive the same car that had been stolen, just wouldn't be the same again.
