Your opinion: Does SA need another cloud system for Entrepreneurs?

I think Entrepreneurs are the heroes of the SA economy. I make custom ERP like cloud systems for businesses, and my clients rave about them. I can't keep up with demand, so I was thinking of making something generic. Doing some research there seems to be so much software out there around accounting/leave/managing one's business. Do you think it's a waste time trying to create something in this space? Are people mostly happy with the packages they are using or is there space to create something better, any feature that annoy you about what you are currently using or what you would like that doesn't exist?

What does yours do that the others don’t? The space is fairly congested though. Doing something generic and worthwhile is a huge amount of work.

Historically, many of these systems have been multiple applications you had to integrate, but there are players that are providing all company functions under a single SaaS product, like Odoo.
Another angle would be to investigate all the alternatives and then provide consulting services advising clients which products would work best for their requirements.

I agree it is a huge amount of work, and that is what I am worried about. I have kids now so my free time to code has drastically gone down, so that's why I thought I should at least ask other for their advice before diving into it. The main difference I think would be a really nice, fast, intuitive, responsive interface, other than that same sort of features.

Thanks for responding,
TBH and not wanting to rain on your parade, a ‘nice fast intuitive responsive interface’ is not a good enough reason to do this. There are big teams at your competition doing this. And they have big teams and partners that can sell the product to recover the dev costs. You likely don’t.

Rather channel your enthusiasm into something that is more unique to you.
What stack are you using and what level of experience are you at?

Yeah I would tend towards saying its not worth the effort, there are a number of options available already and for very reasonable prices that it doesn't really make financial sense to try and play in the space unless you're bringing something game changing to the table.

If you are going to do it you need a different business model...
E. G. It's free but you make money on their cash flow, or soemthing like that.

In general you need someway to start small in a niche that you know... I dunno software to run solar companies and then build from there.

Unless you have a reason you can do soemthing better, most likely expertise or focus, why would you be able to do it better?
