To the dealers whom are bitching:

Why exactly are you bitching? Is it because you realize that you add no value and the only reason someone would buy from you is because you have a reseller account? If that is the case I question your reason for existing. Perhaps you should think of things you could be doing to improve your store rather than complain.

MyBB makes up a small volume of total people in SA. Most of the sheeple will still buy from their local store (because they don't know any better or buy on impulse), but hey the reseller model failed in the US in terms of computer hardware, just about all sales there are directly from distributors whom buy from the manufacturers. I think that as soon as someone starts up a decent web-site with good service that does exactly that, it'll completely destroy the current market. I almost always buy from the cheapest (unless I know they really suck at service). After all, they only send the components to my door. That was the total of value added. Shipping. And even with that they just act as middleman. No point to the model when it comes to computer hardware/software IMHO.

The only model that makes sense in my mind is Manufacturer(s) -> Distributor(s) -> Customer(s). Since the Manufacturer deals with warranty anyway, the distributors only purpose is to keep stock, check that something is actually broken and deal with shipping. SA end user stores don't keep stock, don't usually have the skills to properly handle checking hardware and only negotiate shipping on your behalf. Out with them I say.

Just my 2c on the whole situation.

you guys are missing the point, I have no intention of supporting a company who supplies me and competes with me, there is no point in doing so. Why must I keep stock of Esquires products if they red handedly sells them to cost + vat to the public. by doing so Esquire is creating competition against its dealers.

@Gnome
Your logic is clouded, if there were no dealers Distributors wont exist, Dealers are your footprint to get your product of the door.

I agree with Gnome, it's not as if Esquire are actively selling to the man in the street. I stand to be corrected but I think you have to be a MyBB member in good standing, not a one post wonder, before they will open a COD account for you.

I can't see why this service to MyBB members should impact on your sales to the sheeple.

I emailed them yesterday, and I have not received a reply yet. Are they still giving out accounts to Mybb members?

I'm so grateful to Esquire for allowing me to buy computer parts at their Cape Town branch before the end of October, cos I could build myself a monster pc for cheap. :)

And I think that is what the MYB account is all about, not to become a dealer of some sorts, just to be able to get your own CPU, mobo, RAM, etc for a really good price.

THANK YOU ESQUIRE, YOU ARE THE BEST! :love:

Your logic is clouded, if there were no dealers Distributors wont exist, Dealers are your footprint to get your product of the door.

Explain that to me please. Let us compare a online retailer, say Prophecy, to a fictitious company X. Company X imports from manufacturers, so they are like Esquire. Company X then decides to sell to the public VIA their web-site. JUST like Prophecy. What is the difference? Physical stores that keep stock are another affair. There will always be people who buy from those, but online retailers and most walk in stores keep either no stock or very little. I'll repeat what I said before: What value have they added?

If my logic is flawed please explain to me how, in the United States, companies like ZipZoomFly exist? They are online retailers that buy directly from manufacturers (in large volume) and then resell directly to the public. Walk in stores still exist in the US, but there are quite a few companies like ZipZoomFly, they don't have walk in premises, everything is done VIA shipping. In size they rival anything we have locally and they buy in large volume from manufacturers. If it can work there, it can work here.

If you know anything about business you'll know the retail model works because every operation in the chain adds value. Shipping can easily be organized by the importer, they handle warranty anyway, I argue that resellers don't add value.

You try to make a convincing argument but you are still stuck in the 80's where walk in stores are the only way to go.

Resellers add value to products in that they provide customer service on behalf of the distributors. Sometimes there are too many people for distributors to provide service to, so they pass on the problem to resellers. Also, Resellers deal with the noobs, while Distributors deal with literate. If distributors sell to just about anyone, then they'd be swamped with questions like, "Why can't get my new computer to work?", "Which part is the CPU?", or "Will I shock if I touch my computer without shoes on?". Esquire are only offering the deal to MyBB members since they're not THAT illiterate.
