Photoshop Elements 7 for edits, (with Nik and Noise Ninja plug-ins)

Breezebrowzer Pro for browsing, culling, batch renaming, general organising etc. (Great little program).

DPP for the occasional Raw shots.

Oh and I'm also fantasizing about that 7D... :)

How accurate is it though? If you hold up next to a calibrated monitor and view the same image, is it close?

Close enough. I've stopped printing for my portfolio and just carry the ipad now to show clients.

Well that remains to be tested. All I can say it'll be more accurate than any laptop display, since they all use 6-bit TN panels.

I wouldn't go that far since you can calibrate a laptop display.

Apart from Picasa 3 (which isn't too bad), ...

Not bad at all! Started using it 3 days ago. I have ZERO gear in my arsenal... :(

I'm a novice. I received D3000 as a gift last December and never edited pics until a few days ago...

Please keep posting! There's so much I learnt in the past 2 hrs reading almost all threads in this forum. :D

Thanks guys.

My arsenal is actually pretty sparse..
two 1D bodies
two lenses (one F2.8 zoom and the other F4 prime)
TCs (1.4X and 2X)
550EX flash which I paid 750bucks for
Manfrotto monopod + ball head + swivel head

Software;
Canon's software, Zoonbrowser, PhotoDigitalPro, PhotoStitch etc etc - all freeware
AdobeCS3

I used to use JPegCleaner but decided against it beginning of 2010.

My photos undergo the minimum editing, Im still old school, out the camera is the way to og.

Im looking for a used 24-70/2.8 or 24-105/4 reasonably priced since a new one would be about 12K

I wouldn't even consider two original 1D bodies to be sparse, especially considering the rest of his description. But that's just me :)
I'm more concerned with the guts than the glory (appearance) and 4.1MP (or even 8.2MP if I think about it) of antiquity really doesn't do it for me.

I use iPhoto on a Macbook Pro that I don't even own (really on loan).
but apart from increasing the contrast, cropping and straightening - what else needs to be done that you can control when shooting?

Otherwise Aperture 3 looks like a good product - better priced than Adobe LightRoom. I must say that I am tempted.

I have a Canon 550D, mainly for shooting video. Been wondering about using an iMac 27" quad core with Final Cut Studio 3 to edit the videos.

hmmmm, the need for external storage worries me though.

I'm not expert - just going on what my eye sees and what I want. Also know not everyone is into editing ... But ...

HDR imaging needs a PC and software

Portrait Professional is great slightly smooth over skin, brighten the iris or other tweaks to models.

Also see lowering saturation works great on some shots - depending on what you're going for ... Slightly sharpening the head of a macro insect ... Creating more blur (for us without SLRs) ... Reducing noise (for us with lil sensors) ...

And then I do straighten, crop and contrasts/levels too

I don't think anyone here considers two 1D bodies to be be sparse :D
LOL, they are quite a bit newer than the original 1D by the way, but not at mk4 level yet. I have found that often people would rather want to know how much kit one has, instead of what one has. So I have two cameras, three lenses and a flash, basically.... I cant replace both with Mk4 cameras just yet.

What i would like to do is replace the 28-135IS with a 24-70/2.8 and then my prime F4 lens with a 2.8 as well. If I have to update to mk4 bodies on top of this I am looking at the same money as a small car.... which I don't really have, nor can justify.

The 28-135Is is an old lens which is just a general purpose and ultra fast AF and super sharpness not really required.... however, a 24-70/2.8 will slot in very nicely under the /2.8 i already have.

As you can see I dont go out and spend a fortune on kit all at once.... it s a gradual process of keeping 'nearly' up to date but still enabled to produce top class images. I am also not a MP chaser, I believe a 1Dmk2n still kicks a 550D's ass.

True, it is slightly older than 1Dmk4, but I have often found that people would rather want to know how much kit one has, instead of what one has. So I have two cameras, three lenses and a flash, basically....

So out with it then. Which 1D do you have?

Nah, really? Besides, I already have a pretty good idea which bodies you have. :)
