All fun and games, until a child dies. No matter how smart, Teslas still rely on a bunch of sensors, and it might happen that a certain set of conditions exist where the sensors fail in some fashion.
Yet such tests are needed if these sets of conditions are to be identified and fixed. Quite the conundrum

Understood, but realistically, no matter how hard they try, not every set of conditions can be tested, or even thought of, until it actually occurs.

I would rather that kids/adults/pets not stray into roads carrying traffic, and that drivers focus on the roads so they can effectively respond to possible incidents in a timely fashion. I'm old-fashioned that way.

“I have experienced the product myself, and believe in my investments,” CNBC quoted Park as saying.
"My investments take priority, that's why I'm willing to put my kids on the line."

I mean, a simple pitot tube blockage caused a giant airplane to smash into the ground with no way for the pilots to overcome it (yes there probably is a way if you are a Boeing engineer)

The problem is they took away the important sensor for detecting objects in the road, being the radar/lidar.

They did not want to spend the time needed to properly calibrate the data coming from the radar.

It cost the world's militaries trillions of dollars to develop radar systems that can reliability hit targets and account for normal environmental factors.

I suspect Tesla realized that it would require a similar investment. So, they took the cheap and nasty route of only relying only on optical data, since that is a lot cheaper.

But they still made the same promises as before, they did not adjust those.
