.ZA price hikes announced

The .ZA Domain Name Authority has (Zadna) announced price hikes for the co.za, org.za, net.za, and web.za domains.

Zadna CEO Molehe Wesi said the decision is based on a comprehensive financial analysis and the impact of inflation and exchange rates on its operational expenditures.

Please don't take us for fools with these BS excuses.
1) Your services are local and are not impacted by exchange rates.
2) Computer services keep getting cheaper - more MIPS for same Rands.
3) The system is automated.
 
OK I'm paying R139 pa inc Whois Privacy via domains.co.za so where do I get my domain for R61 ex VAT instead?

OK to answer my own question, see https://truehost.co.za/cheapest-co-za-domain-name/. Prices are up a bit since 2020, but the order is more or less the same in terms of cheapest. So I'll just be transferring after some due diligence.

The real issue is that they are considering raising the price annually. They will base it on the 'prevailing' CPI. I have no idea what they mean by prevailing, but it tells me that positive indicators won't be a metric since they seem intent on maintaining price increases.

Someone should tell truehost that comparative advertising in South Africa is illegal!

Items like Hotel bills, catering, conference centers, 1st class travel etc went up.

Fortunately, Interest free staff loans still cost the same.

BTW

You're being sold vaporware if you are being sold privacy, your WHOIS information should be protected/redacted by GDPR/POPI

That comparison that you quoted seems quite old, for instance our current registration cost is R69 incl vat but sadly will change
 
Watch out for articles in the coming months how the registry staff and CEO all got fat increases. I guess it's time to move my domain over to a dot com.

It's not really "advertising" as they just list on their website. Everyone's website does normally site their pro's (not con's) and price is probably their biggest pro (turns out it actually includes the WhoIsPrivacy). But I'd like to see the actual prohibition on comparative advertising first, to judge the full context of it (I've actually not read it)?

Very valid point actually, especially as it can include actual physical home addresses for many!

Yes I did mention they are from 2020 - they seem to have all moved up but the order may well be similar. What is a bit concerning is that some include, and some exclude, costs for WhoIsPrivacy (or should I say, they add a cost on top which is sometimes not stated up front, so I'm pretty careful now of what is excluded from the costs, and being charged for later).
