Oh dear this is ridiculous.

"Low-cost ADSL" @ R2000/30GB

Does the writer at ITWEB think the world charges R2500 for a 192k connection with a 10GB cap?

Tried to post a comment on the ITWeb site, directing "Staff Writer" to this thread. Didn't work, the reply I got on submit:
There seems to be a problem with your feedback submission. Please try again, or contact our technical department.
Could somebody else also try? The message was simply:
To the writer of this article: please read the comments on http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=25209

Thank you!

Some people may actually only need a 1GB account. 250MB, 500MB, 1GB etc, small-cap accounts, are pretty popular abroad for those who don't need more than what they use. No use paying for 3GB if you only use say 600MB, and a LOT of people don't use much. Sure, most of us think that 1GB is little (of course it is) but to many people it's more than they need, and those looking to cut costs will most likely go for it.

In any case, the more options the better. the fact that the price is expensive isn't Zazu/Rumba's fault - we KNOW who's fault it is.

but at R149 for a gig? ok lets say that they do take it to cut costs, the thing is that nobody can predict the future. even for people for whom 1GB might be enough, they cant say "this month im going to use xMB". what if they hit their cap and really need the internet in an emergency? the point is that a persons freedom to access to information is being taken away from them, be it a 1GB cap or a 10GB cap

R149 is a special deal ramba got yet again for 3gig wholesale accounts, and prob using the current loophole to make that 6gig for a not to big markup. As mentioned previously, ramba get special wholesale prices all the time it seems.

Thats also why they mention for time being you get 5gig for free, in fact its 5gig stolen with the loophole affect(correct me if you know what your saying, but I still believe this is stealing with regards to the loophole and 30gig offerings)

1GB (R 149) + 192k (R 270) =/ R 419 = R500 ( R 80 for analogue) ...

Talk about a k*k deal ...

While it's true that the pricing isn't Zazu's fault, and that this may be the best available option for some, I resent their use of that Telkomian phrase "responsible user" to basically insult (criminalise?) people who want to use broadband like broadband, not like a glorified email service.

It's even ***ker than that because line rental is going up to R92 from R87. So it'll actually cost you R511.

For 192kbps!! With 1 giga-f*cking-byte of traffic. Wow, our narrowband connections here in SA is getting better and better.

What I don't get is ISP's appearing to normalise this mangled definition of a typical internet user which they refer to as

So, playing games, listening to internet radio, watching the odd streaming movie trailer, checking email and sharing digital photographs by definition makes me an "irresponsible" home user. Cos by doing that 1gig, even 3 gigs, just doesn't cut it for us.

Seems Telkom have mananged to brainwash the country into what it responsible bandwidth usage and what isn't. ROFL Just a thought, but imagine they start doing like the Save Water and Electricity campaigns, and we now all start a 'Save Bandwidth' campaign

Hehehe - for R12 less a month you can take your connection with you wherever you go (3G/EDGE)! Love the way how comms in this country is all backwards...

Well, all I can say is I can't wait for Vodacoms 2Mbit HSPDA solution. If it's R450 or less (haha, dream world) and it comes with a cap larger than 3GB I'll switch immediately.

Telkom takes absolutely no pride in being South African. If they did they'd try to provide us with the best telecommunication services in Africa at some of the most affordable rates. They can take a page out of the book of Eskom, also a monopoly, but one that provides us with some of the cheapest electricity on Earth. Now that's Proudly South African.

I wonder how many people are signed up to them. Or even worse, how many of them are signed up with ZaZu on a 24 month contract.

Oh and if u subscribe before 31 October 2005, u get 5gb free until the new Telkom Tariffs become effective on 1st November 2005.
They seem quite confident that the Telkom Tariffs are going to change.

I can just see the people responsible for all this reading through all the threads concerning the new pricing structure, rubbing their hands together, and going: "Exxxcelent!" (a la Mr. Burns)...I for one hope none of this materialises, but I think that if the new pricing structure is indeed implemented, that Astral Travel will have to replace my ADSL.

Maybe a Wikipedia entry of Telkom should be done, likening them to evil in its purest form. I mean, what can possibly more evil than a company holding back a country that desperately needs the progress?

It's 1:00AM now, and if I continue typing, I may just have Telkom's personal hit-squad knocking on my door tommorow morning...so I'll just stop. <expletive deleted><expletive deleted><expletive deleted>
