With Afrihost recently clearing their allocation of stock within minutes, I think it is a good idea to create this Thread to for Zest T1 owners to share all of their thoughts, comments and advice regarding their experience with their T1.
As Zest is a small South African brand, I think this will help their guys with the development of their current product and products to come.
So! ZEST T1 community, lets hear (in this case, read) what you have to say (type)!!!

I am still waiting to take delivery of mine, expecting it on Tuesday/Wednesday. 4-5 business day delay, not bad.

Getting mine on Thursday only (1st 200 to order), but what I'm interested in is the battery life for average use. Since the soul reason I bought one was due to my S2's battery lasting 3-4hrs max on the latest OS.

Getting mine on Wednesday.

I'm pretty grateful for this deal from Afrihost as our baby got hold of my Xperia Z1, managed to drop it and cracked the screen. Then I dropped my backup Galaxy S3 into the toilet. So miffed.

Going to fix the Z1 in time and then keep the Zest for backup. Or perhaps even keep the Z1 as backup if I find the Zest more than capable.

Also interested in battery life. Was getting a full 2 days out of my Z1.

I know this might be premature but does anybody know if we'll be able to load something like CyanogenMod on the Zest?

I doubt that will be available just yet. But I really want to because from what I read on reviews is the internal memory is partitioned, meaning that you can't use all 8gb of internal memory for games and apps :crying:.
If this is true (which I will confirm upon delivery), then Zest must send out an update where the user can choose the size of the partition.
I personally think these guys should have left all the internal memory for apps and given a memory card with the phone.

Is anybody else having issues with this phone or is it just me?

The Afrihost sim is refusing to connect to the MTN network (and yes, I did set the APN to Afrihost). Even if I put my Blackberry Vodacom sim in the phone I still have no data connection. The MTN sim in any other phone registers on the MTN network.

And why does the phone indicate "Invalid IMEI"?

Tried rebooting with the sims in and out, factory reset with the sims in and out, leaving it on overnight, still no joy.

At this stage it looks as if I will have to go to the Afrihost walk-in centre to see if they can sort it out, or exchange for a new one. :(

You will definitely get better battery life. But please dont expect S5 quality. The Zest uses Dual sims and it has a 1,600mAh battery. meaning more juice gets sucked from a lower capacity battery, but also the Zest doesn't have to power all those fancy Gesture software that comes with the S4/S5. You could expect just over a day maybe 2, if you are a light to moderate user.
I hope to get a days life at least from heavy use.

Log on to your ClientZone and check what your access details are (it should be afrihost, but maybe somehow it changed). If you are still getting no joy, create a support ticket. https://clientzone.afrihost.com/en/#/en/my-support

Did that, tried that, support seems to be stumped as well.

Generic replies "Set the APN", "You are aware that Afrihost sim only supports data", bla bla bla...

Still no joy

I'm no expert, but it sounds like it's faulty. Return it and get a new one?

Seems like you got the one Lemon from the batch of "4000", that is to be expected.
Get one of the support guys to call you, if you still get no joy then request for a new phone.

Or the first lemon that has been delivered at this stage? Seems like I will have to take the drive to their offices on Wednesday afternoon.

Afriman, when/if you read this, please keep a black Zest T1 out for me that can be swapped out on Wednesday, or if none is available, grab Gian's, I know that one is working :D

Afriman is going to be one busy man! With all the business that we have given Zest, they should invest in a Zestman

I created a thread for the Zest T1, but it might have been a little premature and fell off the radar. Maybe a mod can merge?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hear exactly how the battery holds up in day to day use. Screen on time and standby time. My guess is that it will comfortably get through a day of average use, but not much more.

Just got news that your 12 months of data only starts on 1 July for those who bought on launch. You have been given 1gb for the remainder of the month to get your phone up ready with all the apps and stuff.
Seems like its 13gb in total :D

I got mine on Friday, and tested Endomondo on it today. It worked much better than my S3 mini. Battery shows 67% left after 3 hours on Endomondo with data on as well.
I am impressed so far.
