Zidoo X6 - Anyone using one of these?

I just bought one (Damn Chinese New Year) and waiting for shipping.

Anyone using one of these? Quite powerful and have all the right bells and whistles to make for a great box.

If there are any users, have you been able to get DSTV NOW running?

Did you ship it with EMS or airmail?
It will take quite a while to ship and clear customs, 1-2 months.

Only bad thing is the internal wifi which can be slow sometimes and the small heatsink which makes the device throttle down after heavy use to decrease CPU temperature.
Otherwise it's a great media player and way better than the outdated Migica ATV 582 that Takealot sells with half the specs.

I have the similar HPH NT-V8 RK3368 and currently run dual-boot firmware on it.
Also tried the new Marshmallow firmware but will waiting for it to mature more before using it.
Showmax, DSTV Now, Netflix, everything works, even Kodi on Lubuntu.
I paid around $102 with DHL shipping and got it in 6 days.

Don't worry, it also includes a remote, the same as the second product.
The 3rd option already includes DHL shipping which can cost $40-$50 elsewhere to South Africa, so you save a lot on shipping costs.
It takes about 6 days to ship to your door, might add an extra day if it falls over a weekend to clear.

The Rand is strengthening now so the HPH NT-V8 is now very cost effective, the HPH NT-V6 is still a little pricey but it also includes an airmouse worth around R550 and is more powerful.
I don't know what will be the best, to buy now or wait until after the Budget Speech for the exchange rate, it's a gamble.

You can also use their smartphone app to control the device or an Xbox 360 controller or any USB keyboard/mouse or bluetooth keyboard/mouse.

A year ago when I used TNT I had to pay a R400 admin fee to TNT when the parcel arrived in SA.

You can try mo123 v1.1 or v1.2 dual-boot firmware.
You can also try Ugoos UT4 firmware as their device also use Nagrace pc boards and their firmware is 100% compatible with HPH RK3368 devices.

DSTV Now should also work on these firmwares unless DSTV had a new app update and broke things again.

Just installed the NT-V8 I bought and guess what... DSTV NOW streaming does not work. It is stuck on the very first fram of anything I try to watch

Have you flashed the custom firmware with the new DRM rights?
It's available here
First booting takes a while 10-15 minutes then you can unplug power and reconnect if it doesn't progress.

I am busy with it right now. I am just a bit concerned regarding the "dual boot" option, as I want to keep this pure Android, BUT I will look at what the firmware looks like once dumped and 'possibly' extract just the Android portions.

ps - Do you know how to port the DRM to other devices?

Yes Ugoos also has DRM, you can try it.
But they also have a similar root menu in their settings so I'm not sure if that will also cause trouble.
Try to go to /system/usr and delete those superuser apps or rename them but you need to be rooted first.
Then afterwards try unrooting from the Android Settings again.
What message does it say exactly?
Have you tried the Supersport app streaming and the highlight videos and see if that works as that app also comes from DSTV.
The ROMS aren't rooted, so DSTV must be checking for something else now.
You can also try renaming /system/xbin/su files if there are any.

such a pita! I have bougt 3 of these devices and none does streaming of DSTV... (16 men on a dead man's chest... then for me)

As a last note, I do not think it has anything to do with DRM, as all 3 my devices stream other stuff fine. I think it is DSTV's stuff that is full of *****!

I see on DSTV Now's app page several people now complain that it doesn't work with their devices and phones that are not rooted and says it's rooted and can't work, even on Hellopeter people complain about it.
Everyone should post on the DSTV Now Google Play Store link, email Multichoice and complain on Hellopeter so DSTV can get a wake up call to fix their problems.

Have you tried the new Android-Only v1.4 firmware on freaktab?
