The problem is not with root. I have a couple of boxes now and just can not get them working.

Everything will install OK (DSTV NOW/Supersport/DStv Connect Single Sign-On) but:
* ANY stream gets stuck on the first frame with "DSTV NOW"
* Supersport comes up with "an unexpected error has occurred"

I have tried:
* Zidoo X6 Pro
* Zidoo XI II - Android 4.4.4
* Ugoos UT4
* NexBOX Z64
* Nagrace NT-V8
* Proline Android TV Stick
* RemixOS

None of them works! If anyone tells you differently, it is a lie! I have spoken to DSTV about the problem and they say that only some devices are supported, the rest - just your dumb luck!

That said, all the above devices runs on Android 5.1+ and except for the "stick" and "remix" runs on RK3368 chips. I am getting later today a RK3229 running on Android 4.4 and will post my findings/testing after some photos...

UPDATE: RK3229/Android 4.4 with Supersport APP also gives "An unexpected error occurred, please try again later" and
UPDATE: RK3229/Android 4.4 with DSTV NOW works!

I have also tried to get a S905 device to test, but did not want to spend money on older devices...

just my expensive testing experience, so far!!!

Footnote: It 'seems' that the only type of boxes that will work to be Android 4.4. I have not been able to get anything working on Android 5+, so IF you have a trick/tip how to do this, please post it! My next question is if there is a way to "trick" DSTV to look at the Android 5 devices as if it is Android 4? I will have to look into this one...

Thanx for testing ,can tell clients that dstv now will work on the mxq-4k :p

Ok, I have some good news. I got two devices that works like a charm:

1. Zidoo X1 II - DSTV NOW works, Supersport does not.
2. K1 PLUS DVB-S2/T2 - DSTV NOW works, Supersport does not.

The K1 has the added feature of picking up TV FREE TO AIR, DTV via T2 or S2.

Found another that works. Jide Remix Mini - DSTV NOW

The device is a bit on the expensive side for what it is and the OS is, although it looks like a DT, not the fastest there is... For the same money you can get WAY better...

OH, and you do not get a remote with this one :(

ps - to get this one going, you need to:

1. Install and Enable Google Play (http://techcabal.com/2016/05/09/rem...-play-installed-heres-how-to-get-it-yourself/) - WOW, REMIXOS lost their Google Play Licence!
2. Reboot.

Found one that is quite strange: Tronsmart Vega S95 Pro.

Supersport works 100% in it, but DSTV NOW not.

It is the first device I got that the Supersport APP actually works in...

Which one what? Devices? The one in the OP.
Sorry, didn't read everything, just did a quick search on key phrases, found nothing and asked the Q :)

The OP (Zidoo X6), yes. As a matter of fact, most of them do, they are great boxes, just the SA DSTV thing gets me down ;)

Have you tested a 10 bit file? I know most of these boxes now support HEVC/H.265- with 8 bit support, not 10 bit (I had a different brand with much the same specs that supported 4K H.265, but ya, not 10 bit- hence my question).

Almost, but not quite.
I'm specifically talking about Decoding of 10 bit (10 bit colour, I believe) files. aka files encoded with the Main10 profile. That screenshot may very well just be H.265 8 bit.

No, the Zidoo X6 doesn't support 10-bit X265, only 8-bit.

I think the 10 bit files are now only for porn doeleindes?

Actually 10-bit 3D 4K :)
Most X265 is still 8-bit, the 10-bit is not very common.
You will find a couple of 10-bit movies on this site
https://psarips.com/category/movie/
You can compare the quality with eg. Showmax and the difference in quality is night and day.
For x265 8-bit and x265 10-bit there is not a big difference except for movies with dark colors and scenes then you can enjoy those movies a lot better.
From x264 to x265 the difference is mostly the greater sharpness.
X265 does come with a lot smaller file sizes too.

Coming Zidoo X9S will support 10-bit X265

Rockhip RK3288 already supported X265 10-bit 2 years ago and is still a flagship CPU today.
The Zidoo X9S has an Antutu score of 34000 while a RK3288 device has around 52000 but new devices like the Zidoo X9S do come with new hardware video capabilities like HDR and VP9, but finding content like that is very difficult and mostly only available with Netflix 4K which is not supported on it.

But with our slow internet connections in South Africa we mostly don't even use the new video technologies.
People in the US can stream 4K Netflix and Youtube with HDR and 3D happily on their cheap 100/1000mbps connections.
