The Public Protector has found that a tweet about colonialism by Western Cape Premier Helen Zille is in violation of the Constitution.

In a report released on Monday, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane said that Zille's conduct was tantamount to improper conduct in terms of the Constitution, as well as violating the Executive Ethics Code.

In 2017, Zille tweeted: "For those claiming legacy of colonialism was ONLY negative, think of our independent judiciary, transport infrastructure etc."

"It cannot be said that the Premier's tweet sought to show concern and respect for those who were victims of apartheid and colonialism," said Mkhwebane in an executive summary.

She added that, although Zille had apologised, the apology could be interpreted as a recognition of the negative impact the tweet had on the dignity of a section of the South African population.

So, when is zille going to resign since she has violated the Constitution? Unless you're white, all aspects of colonialism were negative.

This will be overturned on review.

This PP is useless.

If the PP's declaration of what is against the constitution is overturned doesn't that cast doubt on her impartiality when it comes to her interpretation of said constitution?

I know, right? Lets just remove everything starting with a 'c' and be done with the term altogether.

Oops. I forgot about

Cars...
Cash...
Care (of hospital variety)...
Calls (of phone variety)...
Carriageways (of car and train-carrying variety)
etc.

I'm sure there are one or two I may have left out.

She already tanked her credibility with her SARB/ABSA report. No doubt left to cast.

Since when is a tweet the remit of the public protector? The PP is there to protect citizens from government abuse.

Somehow, I do not think so....

White person.....

ANC attacks....

The tweet:

For those claiming that the legacy of colonialism was only negative, they should look at various aspects of South Africa’s development, such as the judiciary and other infrastructure.

Agree or disagree, it's not unconstitutional to hold those views or to express them in a tweet.

It will be unconstitutional if you are a white person holding these views. The concourt has already been leaning towards this view in a number of judgments. Also, the ANC will make it a priority to see this through ahead of elections.

Now you are being totally unconstitutional. How dare you?

People are not allowed to hold unconstitutional views, especially when those views are factual .
Wait....

She’s rooted this in an “incitement to imminent violence”.

Pierre de Vos is taking it apart on Twitter right now. He says even his students would know better.
