Havent read the article but from what I saw on the news tonight I doubt their economy is improving at all. They showed disturbing images on tv about those people digging in the veld for mice and frying the mice for food, and yet the next video recording showed 10000's of people still shouting and cheering at mugabe.

Not to mention that the people are reduced to eating dog food there:

"I feel so humiliated. I never dreamt in all my life that I would queue up to buy dog meat. I feel worthless - and what is dignity in Zimbabwe? We have all been reduced to nothing, to worthless human beings," she said. "At least when I cook the dog food or meat shavings, if I am lucky to get them at our nearby butchery, I can taste meat. It gives the vegetables a different flavour and I get the protein that has been lacking in my diet."

We should plug our borders. Prevent these folks from comin' into SA. This will force them to either divert to other countries or squirm a bit and actually do something to F up Mugabe. The borders however are so porous that it is easier to leave Zim than to face Mugabe and his idiots.

South Africa is 100% responsible for letting this go as far as it did.

South Africa has problems of its own. Unemployment, crime, aids, and I doubt that we have time to deal with other people's stupidity. I say we deal with the stupidity here at home and prevent a similar situation from unfolding here.

Well, funny you should say that, as this is the crux of an argument that we've (I've taken the liberty to include kilo along with myself) been participating in rather frequently of late. We have, as you so eloquently put it, problems of our own, yet our president sees it fit to spend the majority of his time trying to sort out other countries' problems? How noble.

To think that there are people endorsing a possible third term for Mbeki, is utterly disgusting. Ussually when this happens it's the sign that the president has a lot (read corruption) to hide . Soon a third term becomes a fourth and fifth, ditto Mugabe,...!!!!

I'm not convinced that a president is actually what we need. Too much power is invested in Thabo Mbeki, and he is not really around to do what he was appointed to do. Zimbabwe is also yet another example of how the power granted to a single individual can single handedly destroy a country. I think a president should be stripped of all powers, and should be nothing more than a ceremonial entity - be the number one parliamentarian and relay the decisions of the parliament to the people. He should not be allowed to speak on behalf of the people (Thabo spoke out on AIDS and it was clearly something he knew very little about, for example) and he should not be entitled to make empty promises.

Maybe pushing the power into parliament equally with no single person enjoying any more power than any other will greatly bring the celebrities of cabinet back down to earth...
