The country is enforcing the ban to put a stop to loss of billions of dollars from raw lithium exports, enough to repay its debts

The ministry of Mines and Mining Development on Dec. 20 published a circular under the Base Minerals Export Control Act that seeks to “ensure that the vision of the president to see the country becoming an upper-middle income economy has been realized.”

It's kak when things come back to bite you in the ass Zimbabwe.
"The government says it is losing $1.8 billion in mineral revenues due to smuggling and externalization to South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Gold is the most smuggled mineral."

It was an upper middle class income economy in 1980 when it became Zimbabwe and was no longer Rhodesia.

It's hypocritical of Zim to ban raw exports when illegal mining is all but allowed there. Passed a gold mining camp where illegal miners mined and they advertised explosive and other supplies to these illegal miners, lol. No wonder explosives flow so freely from Zim to here, they're being sold legally to illegal miners.

Lithium is in high demand, there are going to be several companies willing to play ball with them.

You are being anti-Western when you dislike Ukraine in this time. They want to escape the sort of thing which is becoming more prevalent since your Russia BFF became influential in the 1920s.

There is no confusion. The confused party is you. I don't "SIMP" for Ukraine because I have a hard on for beautiful Slavic blonde women who remain alive and are not murdered by Russian bombs and bullets, or for yellow/blue but because they want to escape the negative influences of the ideology which still grips your BFF in the east. It's also just and morally right as well as humane to support a defender against an aggressor.

Sorry to break it to you but you don't get to decide that. Are you even Western yourself?

It appears you are not thinking rationally. Zelensky is not my hero. I couldn't care who was in charge in that country, that they want to look Westwards and not remain corrupt like the Russians and Belarus is a positive and they improve European security for that reason. Reducing Russia's negative influences on Europe and the world is positive. Once Russia becomes more like the West their influence will become more positive.

So I did not say Russia is everywhere, you just don't read nuance or get meaning.

You're creating strawmen are are arguing emotionally.

This thread is going off topic. Suffice to say Putin your BFF wants to create some anti-Western front with the developing world, and has been doing this for a long time. If you wish to support that, you are pro-that.
Imagine thinking that I'm going to read all that.

Russian influence and ideology. Something you're also promoting yourself in Europe. But in Europe, we won't allow you to do that. You'll have to try that elsewhere.

It was the Chinese that supported Mugabe. But the result is the same for the same communist ideology.

It's just like the anc would do. Ban it so there is less competition for the cadres.

As with ciggaretts in lockdown for example.

The laws regarding mining and export of minerals were always there. The problem is that it is the president and other ruling party members who are the major players in smuggling out minerals. So any ban will not make any difference, just as the other existing laws have not made any difference.
