Narcissists... No doubt Trump is one of them. One of the reasons got elected because america celebrates people who celebrate themselves.

I think narcissists are very frequently in positions of power because they know how to manipulate others and make themselves seem infallible....
it's an offence to even suggest they might be wrong, so people around them become yes-men just to avoid conflict, giving them reinforcement in their narcissistic beliefs.
Then one of them seizes power, it's Ok because it's their god-given right to rule over lesser humans. It's no surprise that they create a cult of personality around themselves.

...the next "victors" would also want to rename objects to honour themselves. Rinse and repeat. He shouldn't be thinking about renaming stuff at this point.

African leaders love the medals, fake military ranks and streets bearing their names

Unfortunately, this is a global issue. All politicians love it. Some places have a rule. Only 5 years after a person died can anything be named after them. If people loved them so much, they can wait 5 years. A great emotional cooldown period to give people time to come to their senses.

YOU have just won the Internet post of 2019 .....

A PERFECT illustration of -- tu quoque logical fallacy

As Garry Kasparov noted, it is a word that was coined to describe the frequent use of a rhetorical diversion by Soviet apologists and dictators, who would counter charges of their oppression, "massacres, gulags, and forced deportations" by invoking American slavery, racism, lynchings, etc.[10] It has been adopted by other politicians and countries.

Whataboutism

Simply put, whataboutism refers to the bringing up of one issue in order to distract from the discussion of another. It does not apply to the comparison and analysis of two similar issues in terms such as why some are given more social prominence than others.
