Eskom signed shady deals worth R14.7 billion under Zuma rule — State Capture report

Former South African President Jacob Zuma knowingly and willingly facilitated audacious looting and wanton mismanagement at the state power utility during his almost nine-year rule, a judicial probe concluded.

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. entered into irregular contracts worth 14.7 billion rand ($924 million) mainly with entities linked to members of the Gupta family, who were Zuma’s friends and in business with one of his sons, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said Friday in a new report on government corruption.

Considering they revised the KZN damage bill from 950 billion to 17 billion, using that calculation we can estimate that the "correct" figure is somewhere in the region of 800 billion

Sure you can blame Zuma for coming into power in 2009 and yes we most likely would have just gotten ourselves out of a mess today in 2022 if the correct actions were taken starting 2008.

But let's not forget that Thabo Mbeki era was just as responsible for load shedding. First warnings were in 1998 and right on time 2008 load shedding began. Most countries build an entire nuclear power station in 10 years we cannot even build a coal one in 12 years.

The corruption started in Mbekis era.

Some claim the new figure magically came into play when insurance companies (or some agency) requested reports of the calculations and how the funds would be allocated.

What you guys don’t understand is, get funds out of Eskom, run it to the ground, sign nuclear deal with Russians, get funds out if it. Rinse. Repeat. And they would have gotten away with it were it not for you meddling kids.
Now we’ve got loadshedding sooner than expected
Ask the Apartheid government how these things are done
